night weaning and tandem nursing

Thread Starter
hi mamas ...

I've never posted here as I've never had to wean a child before ... my first two weaned on their own and stopped nursing at night gradually as they started to sleep through the night, probably around 18 mo. I'm currently nursing my 2 yr old and my 11 mo. old. They both nurse at night ... a lot! Maybe 2-5 times each. My two year old shares a room with older siblings and comes into my bed when he wakes up. My 11 mo. old goes to sleep in a crib in our room and comes into my bed upon his first waking. So, I'm tired ... and considering trying to night wean my oldest. I'm thinking this is going to have to involve my dh, as anything on my part will cause too much of a stir and wake the baby, which is not helping anything

Just wondering if anyone has any input, encouragement, etc. ... thanks!

Working on this now myself. DD is 4.5 and DS is 11 mo. DD wakes up and wants to nurse, I've mostly been able to get her to go back to sleep without it but I feel bad, since often since we co-sleep her brother will wake up and I do nurse him back to sleep...seems unfair, but I've just lost all patience with nursing both of them all night long. Is night weaning even part of CLW?

Hi,

For me, night weaning was a step that made it possible for me to continue the nursing relationship much longer than I would have been able to handle otherwise. DS1 nursed two more years after night weaning. I believe night weaning is probably part of the process for many who choose CLW.
