Outdoor shoes for crawlers?

What do you put on your crawling baby's feet when they're outdoors in warm weather? I've been putting some old Robeez on DD when she's crawling around in the dirt, but since they're leather I imagine they might get kinda hot and sweaty (and dirty!) as it gets warmer.

Robeez makes a summer/sandal version with little cut-outs that breath.. You might look into that.

nak

My MIL is a retired pediatric nurse-practitioner. She is emphatic that "the best baby shoes are no shoes." My crawler goes barefoot if it's warm enough, and wears socks if it isn't.

Last summer ds was crawling - I mostly left him barefoot. It really was more his knees & hands I was worried about than his feet.

My chiro said no shoes are best. DS crawls outside with long pants to protect his knees, but no shoes. We put shoes on him sometimes, but he seems to pull up less, like they're a hindrance. So we only use them when we're out and about, and then only to keep his socks on.

Uh yeah....I don't know why just leaving her feet bare didn't occur to me. I was putting shoes on her in winter to keep her feet warm, and I didn't think about the fact that there's really no reason for her to wear them now. Thanks mamas!

I think it depends on where you live! I'm in NYC so going outside means going to playgrounds that, while an awful lot of fun and LOOK clean, are probably pretty damn nasty. Also the black rubber stuff that you walk on can get hot (in which case my baby wants to hold my hands to help him walk). So we use these outside:

basically cheaper robeez!

Now that he's about to walk I like Stride Rite and Umi and Simple shoes. Still very flexible but won't be penetrated by stray glass or something else sharp.
