concerned about my 8 month old...

Thread Starter
About 10 days ago my 8 month old was diagnosed with RSV, and an ear infection (we refused antibiotics for the ear infection). He was pretty sick for about a week, then seemed to perk back up a bit. Then 3 days ago he suddenly started vomiting, which lasted for one day (the next day my other kids got sick, too, so it was obviously some stomach bug). After the vomitting, he then got diarrhea, which he has had for 2 days now. He also has had a low grade fever on and off since the RSV diagnosis. I just took his temp now and it's 99.5, which normally wouldn't worry me, but given everything he's had going on, it does cause me some concern. He no longer has any RSV symptoms - no runny nose, cough, etc - it's just he diarrhea and low grade fever. Also, he has not had any solid food since a few days before the RSV diagnosis (so about 2 weeks now). He's just not intested. He's maybe had one Puff, or one Cheerio, but he refuses all of his normal favorites. He only nurses now. He has plenty of wet diapers, so I'm not worried about dehydration, but I am worried about all these symptoms put together. Do any of you wise momma's have any thoughts? Advice?

I am not a wise mama, however I would say to just keep going the way you are, nurse-nurse-nurse-nurse!
He will get all that he needs from your breast as far as the nutrients go.

What did you do for his ear infection? Breast Milk? Has he had a 'follow up' to see that it has cleared up? What about a possible chiropractic adjustment for him?

I would venture to say, with all that has been going on with him, it is a lot, and it takes time for his body to get back to 100%. It sure would mine!

I am sure you will receive many 'wise mama' posts. Well wishes to you and yours! xoxo

It sounds like his immunity was down and that allowed another oppurtunistic infection to take hold. There isn't really anything the doc can do about this little stomach bug. What you need to watch for is signs of dehydration. The PP is right nurse, nurse, nurse. Even if he vomits it up he is likely to be absorbing some of the hydration. If he gets listless, has sunken in looking eyes, has a dry diaper through 2 or 3 normal diaper changes or won't eat/drink, take him in. It doesn't take long for a baby this young to get dehydrated.

As long as he is eating and peeing, though, he should be fine. Let us know what happens.
