Brown GMD prefold + Thirsties Duo?

We're currently using Thirsties Duo covers (stage 2) and infant size non-GMD prefolds that I bought at a local store (looking at the GMD site, I guess the ones I have are the same length as their yellows, but not quite as wide as the yellows).

The prefolds are a bit short on DS (12 months old), so I'm looking to size up. I'm wondering if I should go with red or brown edge at this point...I want them to last a while...

We've still got one set of the rise snaps snapped on the Thirsties duo (the snaps that adjust the height of the rise). Has anyone tried the brown edge GMDs in the Duo covers at this stage/size? Just wondering if they'll be too long or not.

Thanks!

GMD's website has a picture showing the duo 2 at full length with both a red edged prefold and brown edged prefold. I think you'd probably be fine with going with either. If it's a little long you could always fold the prefold down until your ready to unsnap the cover to it's full height. I have only a blue edged prefold for anything past infant stage and never needed anything more. (not sure if my blue edged is equal to a red or brown edge from GMD).

we have been using the brown edged prefolds with the duo wrap snapped at the same setting you're using for a looong time now. we just fold the prefold down in the front. it works un-snapped too, but fits a little better snapped to the middle setting at this point. if i had to choose one combo from my collection of cloth diapers, this would probably be it! super absorbant.

My dd is wearing a brown edge and a Duo 2 (snapped to the medium rise) right now. I've been folding the brown edges down about an inch in the back and it works fine. We also have a dozen red edges that are just barely wide enough these days, but are fine length wise.

we are using brown edge GMD and I have a couple thirsties duo stage 2 covers. My ds is 22lbs and long and skinny, the brown edge works fine although I do fold it down a little bit

Us, too. Which is kind of odd since my DD is over a year younger than KristyDi's! My DD must be giant baby.

But more to the point - this diaper/cover combo works fine for us.

Thanks, everybody! I'll check out GMD to find the photo one of you mentioned (of the red vs. brown in the duo cover). I had bad experiences with folding down diapers when DS was a teeny newborn (bulky weirdness), but at this age/stage it might be ok. I'd rather do some folding-down now and have the diapers longer than get the red edge ones and need to size up again. We definitely need to size up because the ones I'm using now barely keep both "ends" covered simultaneously (probably should have sized up a while ago). DS used to poop almost exclusively in the toilet (which was AWESOME), so it didn't really worry me that his booty wasn't covered all the way up in the back. Now we're on a loooong potty strike (going on 2 months of nothing in the toilet), so the poopy diapers are getting really old. Bigger diapers might help with the gross cover situation.

OK. Ordered some brown edge diapers. I am now impatiently awaiting their arrival. Am I a total dork for looking forward to prepping diapers? (answering my own question..."yes")

My DD is on the small side for her age, so you might not have a giant on your hands.
