My 3 month old son has had stomach issues and mucousy stool since a week or so after birth. Our midwife diagnosed him with thrush at just over a week old, we did several rounds of gentian violet before getting a script for diflucan. The gv and diflucan did make a difference - his gasiness, fussing, and mucousy poop would mostly clear up, he slept better and was generally a happier baby. However, each time the symptoms returned a 5-6 days after stopping the treatment.
We are now both finishing another round of diflucan, and this time his symptoms haven't really gotten better. He gets very gassy, his poop is mucousy and stringy with no seeds, he isn't sleeping very well and he has a lot of sinus congestion. I have been off of dairy for almost 3 monthes, although I haven't removed all traces of it from my diet (if something says "may contain traces of dairy" I will usually still eat it).
I'm considering an elimination diet, just to see if that makes things better. Does this sound like a food issue? I don't want to starve myself if it isn't likely to make things better. I guess I'm just looking for input from those who have more personal knowledge of this stuff than me!
