Help with tonsillectomy decision - Page 2

Fascinating info. DH is really scared of polio and it is the one vax he is insisting on. I'm respecting his concerns, but I think this info will help him understand why polio was so devastating earlier.

OP, we can only say what we *think* we would do in your shoes, based on what you are telling us here, but ultimately you are the mom. But I still don't think you are on that much of a time crunch. Waiting two weeks and doing a total elimination diet to see if three is any change at all is not going to set you back that much.

This doesn't cost any money and to me it would be worth a try. That being said, it could be any food, so you could also just try keeping a food journal and eliminating one or two things at a time, but that takes longer. Or you could do a food allergy test, the one my ND offers only costs about $100 and it is just a finger prick.

I personally would also seek out a constitutional homeopath and try that first too.

My concern would be, what is the imbalance and root cause here? If for example it is allergies, and instead of identifying the allergens, you just remove the tonsils, then what else will the body do to compensate for this? This is what happened to me. I got strep throat one year NINE times in a row. And was given antibiotics every single time, which completely set me up for other issues later. After that many bouts of strep, they removed my tonsils. And guess what? I STILL got strep throat! And I was still constantly sick. So finally, after the fact, they turned to other alternatives and tested me for allergies. I was very allergic to cats, mold, and dairy. Even on traditional allergy tests, so I can only imagine what else I would have showed up being allergic to with the alternative allergy tests available today! So, cats, mold, dairy. Well, my room was in the basement (mold), we had a family cat who stayed in the basement most of the time, and I ate a lot of dairy (milk, cheese, ice cream, everything). After eliminating those allergens, I wasn't sick anymore. And I have never had strep again, ever, despite being exposed and taking very close care of people with strep.

I, personally, would want to know that I had exhausted all other options and avenues before surgery, instead of the other way around, as was done to me.

I know what you are saying. Maybe I should set up the appt the best spot right now is April 27th for us. Then in the time before that try eliminating some things. I will go that route. It seems very daunting to do the elimination but I will start with dairy and gluten and see if that makes any difference.

In something I read it had said how mouth breathing at night for so many hours 8-10 it mentioned, every night is very detrimental. So I thought, well she gets actually 12 hours of sleep where her mouth never shuts. And breathes that way all day long. So I do feel like I need to get on top of this because I kind of feel like damage is happening slowly before my eyes just by virture of the amount of time she breathes like this. It's not like it's only at night.

ok, off to search elimination diets. thanks everyone. The other thing that would put me over the edge was if I take the ear plugs out and she goes swimming and we immediately have a problem again. the ENT said her ears looked great it's just the downward pressure on her jaw.

dairy can take up to 2 weeks to get out of your system; gluten can take a month or more. If you're giving her a fair trial, then you might want to give her a little more time than that. If you have an HSA and want to go the blood test route. We did the ALCAT test which tests for food intolerances. It's what finally stopped the mouth breathing/snoring for us (getting out all the food triggers). It was out of pocket for us (using pre-tax HSA money) and it was around $500 to test for 200 foods.
