I was told I was really patient by the nurses when Lina was born. I daresay they say that sort of thing to all the new mommies (and if they do!) but it was really a confidence booster.

Last Sunday at church one of the old ladies come up to me and says "Are you Alexandra? " um yes.... "you are the talk of the church! You are making quite a reputation for yourself...." oh please stop I thought, please stop "Everyone is talking about what a great mom you are, what a great job you are doing with your kids. They are such wonderful children and you are so good with them" I almost cried!!! My xh had been a jerk all week and I really needed to hear that. and generally at church I really think my childrens behavior is scandalizing everyone so to hear instead everyone thinks they are are amazing and that I am a good mom....

I was getting my 4.5yo dds dressed for swimming in the locker room. One dd has real clothing sensitivities and putting on a bathing suit is always a trial for her. I was talking her through it and doing the things we need to avoid tears; going slowly, using magic dust, rubbing her arms, etc and taking about 10 minutes to get a one piece suit on. I always assumed everyone there thought I was over-indulgent and babying dd. A woman came up and told me I was the most patient mom she'd ever seen. I'm definitely not patient, but it did make me feel good.

I think it's sort of like how I thought I'd lost the ability to multi-task. You ARE patient, it's just being totally used up so there's no room for any extra patience to let you feel patience.
