Mold dangers & babies

I'm wondering how dangerous it is for a child to be continually exposed to mold/mildew.

We rent our home. The basement is moist & often collects water. There is visible black mold in the shower that I keep at bay with a strong mold killer. I have found patches of mold in corners of the house/ceiling that I spray with a bleach solution. They go away, but then return. There is sometimes mold growing along the windowsills - I also use the bleach solution there.

All the mold I have seen is black, goes away when sprayed, but then returns later. I do not know what kind of mold it is.

DS (almost 1 year) has lived here his whole life. He is not a sick baby. I'm wondering if there are any "unseen" health issues that this may be causing. I am also rarely sick. DP is occasionally sick. I don't really know what symptoms to be looking for.

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum - please move if necessary.
Thanks!

Mold can be dangerous. Since you rent I would do nothing less then demand your landlord fix the issue immediately. Mold can cause lung damage, asthma, allergies, breathing issues, ongoing health issues in both young children and adults.

The reason you keep having re-current mold is the problem is much deeper than the surface.

Call your landlord IMMEDIATELY. A quick google search of 'mold dangers' will give you much info.

Thanks for the reply. I guess the problem is more than I can handle alone. Yuck! I hope we can get it fixed fairly easily.

We have mold all over our house that we are renting and since we have been here (over a year now) my kids have developed worse allergies than ever. My landlord isn't planning on fixing anything so we are working to move. We feel it is extremely important to either fix it or get out.

We have found that the AirFree sterilizer works best for mold. When we use it, we don't have reactions to the moldy areas of our house. It's not a filter, but circulates the air through a small chamber that incinerates the mold spores. It takes a couple of weeks to treat all the air, and then it maintains it at that level. They've put cheese and vegetables in a closed room with this thing and they haven't molded.

The best option is to fix the source, but if you can't do that, this is a good option, imo. It works for us. I can tell when my husband unplugs it accidentally because I get stuffy all of a sudden.
