Get Me Back On The Wagon??

I have been using sposies for a few months now... I have 2 in diapers (almost 2 year old and almost 10 month old) and we are having a 3rd in October so potentially 3 in diapers. I hate spending money on sposies when we HAVE diapers but at the same time... I am so sick of the work of cloth!! We have horribly hard water which makes washing difficult, we have pockets and prefolds, and I feel like I have to wash everyday which just isn't practical!! Is there any way to simplify things and make it work?

i don't know, but i'd take the work of cloth over the cost of three in dipes any day! that's just me though, lol. i have never had to deal with hard water either. i know how you feel, we are constantly doing laundry, and just a family of four!

Prefolds? I find them faster to wash, hang out, and fold. They're all the same, so I don't have to worry about matching inserts to pockets. I'm feeling overwhelmed with my cloth diapering at the moment too (mostly due to our laundry situation) and I'm considering selling all my pockets and fitteds and buying prefolds instead.

ETA: Just re-read your post and see that you've already got prefolds. Sorry I don't have any other suggestions

If you like the prefolds I'd set the pockets aside and just use the prefolds. I Hated stuffing them and it made me dread the cloth diaper laundry even more. Now if I want I can just have the load of diaper laundry sitting in the basket and pull out wipes, covers or diapers as needed.

I have really hard water and have finally found Charlies Soap works well for us, but it took a bag or so till it got all the build up out of out clothes and I really started liking it.

Besides that I don't have anything else but I would pass out at the cost of 3 in disposable diapers! lol

Yeah... it really is the cost that is getting me right now! We spend about 10 dollars a week on sposies for 2... so I am guessing that is going to go up to 20 with a NB then back down to 10 once I get the oldest using the potty. I think my biggest issue is our washing routine and the ridiculous hard water we have going on.

sell off the pockets. They don't wash well anyway.

With that money buy some really cute covers that you will love seeing your babies in. Tell yourself that you can spend that ten dollars a week on some new pretties for your babies. Spend that money you are throwing in the trash on a beautiful wool item or super cute print cover. Make diapering fun.

Visit hyenacart, learn to knit, or learn to sew, and you won't want for some boring plastic diaper again.

Maybe start back with just cding the older one, in hopes that the feeling of wetness will get him/her to pl quicker, well before oct.

With 3 in diapers to save money I would go with the bumGenius econobum kits, you get a doz prefolds and 2 covers, and the price is not bad at all.
Good luck

I have 3 dozen GMD prefolds that I really like and a few covers. I do LOVE the new Thirsties prints, they are so cute!! I like the idea of selling some pockets to pay for cute covers... I need to keep some for my hubby to use because he is SO bad with prefolds and every time he does it is a HUGE mess to yeah... but I think I will try it maybe for a week... see how it goes, it can't hurt right?

I have really hard water too. I started adding Calgon to every wash (a capful in with the detergent) and now I don't have to do the super complicated wash routine! It's helped a ton! I found Calgon in the detergent aisle in my grocery store.

We used Calgon as well. What is your wash routine if you don't mind my asking? What detergent do you use and how much?
