Our daughter Linden Hazel Groom was born on Saturday April 3.
8lbs. 12oz. 20 1/2"
Birth story:
Our midwives had come over to do a membrane sweep on Friday and I was 4cm with a bulging bag. They came back over on Saturday to do cervical pressure points and another sweep. We were advised to put a movie on for the kids and dtd, so we did. They came back 2 hours later after lunch and found I was 5 cm with a bulging bag. My dh, ds and dd went to drop our son off at a birthday party. We decided to do a cotton root bark ticture to bring on some contractions. I took the first dose and then 15 minutes later took the second (1:40pm). They checked heart tones and then I got up to go pee where I immediately had a contraction. 45 minutes later our daughter was in my arm in a birth pool with about 10 inches of water
I labored mostly on the toilet sitting on it with the seat down while I ran wash cloths under cold water while calling our doula and my dh to tell him I wanted him home. I called him again at 1:59pm to tell him I needed him NOW. He said he was cutting people off in traffic and driving as fast as he could. He arrived about 8 minutes later I had 3 or 4 contractions and my water broke while sitting on the toilet seat lid with underwear on
I screamed; "my water broke and the baby is COMING" one of the midwives dove on the bathroom floor to catch the baby. I yelled "NOT YET I AM GETTING IN THE POOL" someone ran to see if there was even enough water in it. They said it should be okay. I was helped into the pool where I then knelt down screamed and caught our daughter head on my own since the MW hadn't even gotten a chance to kneel down yet. I then grabbed onto the side of the pool while one mw held one of my hips to make sure I didn't come out of the water and the other midwife caught our daughter. My husband had gotten one foot in the pool.
It was needles to say a VERY fast and EXCITING birth and though it was great being so fast, my dd was 8hours and ds was 4, I will say I was in a dazed shock afterwords. Like after you have just been in a car accident. I didn't get that birth high till hours later. But looking back, the entire thing seems really funny. It was quite a circus.

Seeing the picture of her nursing made me ache to hold and nurse my baby.
