need advice - semen analysis results

I just ... literally... got off the phone with my dr. I haven't even told my DH yet. His semen analysis came back. He is way above normal in volume, 81 million was his count with normal being 40 million. His morphology however came back abnormal at 2% normal with 97% of the abnormality being in the sperm's head.

I don't know what all this means and I didn't think to ask questions as I really needed to process this news first. I'm scheduled to go in for a dnc on thursday which will be the day of ovulation. dr said that it is unlikely that i will get pregnant naturally and he wants me to have the dnc so i can have a clean slate and then start with inseminations... of course my insurance doesnt cover this cost. i have gotten pregnant before and it ended in an ectopic. Has anyone had similar experiences??

I don't want to give anyone false hope, but in 2001 my DH was diagnosed with low everything, amount, morphology, and motion (I can't remember the correct terms). Anyways it wasn't until a few years later (and after trying all kinds of natural supplements) that my healthfood store lady recommended this Now Brand Tri Aminos that we got pregnant a few months later. And he has taken it on and off since, I am convinced this solved our problem.

My dh had the same result high volume but less than 3% morphology.

However, I am pregnant with my second so don't loose hope. We did this without any assists from doctors or meds too! However, I did try acupuncture.

Also, a year ago my RE also said that the morphology would be a problem and so we tried three IUIs. None of them worked. We gave up after that. Instead I just decided to drop five pounds, remove all the stress from my life and go see an acupuncture lady that specialized in reporduction and viola!

I am not saying that your doc is wrong, I am saying that it might not be unlikely as he says it is.

I used to work in RE and they never gave a d&c for a fresh slate unless there is another problem (incomplete termination, etc.).

As for morphology...is there a chance for a second SI to check it again? They usually recommend at least a month-2 months in between. Are they using WHO or Strict criteria for those numbers?

Here is a link for you.

My DH has low everything - volume, morphology, motion, etc... He was told to take Fertilaid, and I told him to take maca. We are on month 3 of that, and he is going back to get tested again at the end of the month. I was told that semin can and often does change, so don't loose hope.

if its only the first check... as that link I gave said... it could be effected by a previous sickness or various other factors that can mess with spermies... I believe it takes them about 3 months to make new ones? So anything within the past three months could have affected them.
