Toddler and chicken pox - Page 2

I exposed my ds (now six) to my dd's shingles on purpose when he was about 15 months old. She had it across her side and chest so I had her play with him topless with lots of hugs and cuddles. I took dd2.5 to my ds's friend's house when he got chicken pox 2 weeks ago. I had tea with the mom while the boy played with my dd. So far she shows no sign of getting the pox, though we have another week to wait before knowing for sure. It took me a year to find someone I knew who had a kid with pox, he was an immunized child who got them anyway(though about 6 years after he was immunized). Who knows how long it will be before we find the next kid with them to expose dd to.

No, I figured my kids would pick it up on their own. I wasn't interested in going to any extra trouble over it. And they did.

Yes, I took my DD to a pox party when she was 19mths old. I was also 22wks pregnant at the time. Our doctor said it was fine as long as I had immunity already (which I did) and I didn't want to wait until she was naturally exposed. I felt it would be a pain if DD got them right before I had the baby or dangerous if she got them right after. I plan t do the same thing with DS somewhere around the same age. We had no issues with DD being in diapers, it didn't seem to bother her either.

If you get a positive on the chickenpox from your pediatrician, would you mind sharing them?

For those who have gone to a pox party, is it just enough to have the kids play with each other or do they have to have touching contact as well?DD isn't getting the CP vaccine and since she's turning 2 soon I'm hoping for a pox party by her 3rd birthday.

My understanding is that the kids share suckers, juice cups, ect. I'd like to swap shirts, too!
