cheap mei tai (4/7 only)

I've never heard of this before and I'm skeptical since its infantino brand but from the pics at least, it looks good! And an opportunity to try a mei tai without having to spend a lot. http://kids.woot.com/ Has anyone tried this and know how it compares to other brands?

Wow, that is cheap! I'd be interested in hearing other peoples views as well.

Infantino is the company that made the "slings" that were recently recalled.

this is what they suggest using instead of the slings that have been recalled (which I think is more due to parents not wearing babies properly, imho)

This carrier goes for $40 normally, still very inexpensive for a meitai. looks interesting . . .

looks like a straight-up mei tai to me. just has extra slots for the straps which you wouldn;t have to use.
might have to get one!

I agree, looks like a regular Mei Tai to me except for the slots for the straps. Which you don't need to use. It would be a PITA to thread the strap through them all the time anyhow. I wish I had that much left in my paypal account. I need a 2nd Mei Tai since DS slobbers so much it takes 2 days for mine to dry out after we've been anywhere.

They have pictures of babies facing out in those things on the infantino website. That can't be right! I wouldn't trust it, personally.

A few people on the babywearer said that these seemed to be constructed safely, but many mamas have been upset by this product because the design of this mei tai is almost an exact copy of another mei tai brand, not to mention it being made by Infantino who manufactures the awful bag slings.

And IMO, bag slings make for unsafe carriers no matter how they are used. The design of bag slings makes it extemely difficult, if not impossible to wear baby in what most sling experts would consider a safe manner. They are designed to only be used in a cradle carry, and with the elastic at the top, the bag naturally curves into a "C" position, which makes it hard for most babies to keep their chin away from their chest, and to keep babies face uncovered by the carrier's fabric.

I think there was also issues that some people had with the recall happening only after thay had fabricated enough of this other carrier... Personally, I would not give them my $$.
