Wet nursing

There is a group I joined on facebook that posted this article on wet nursing.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how that works as far as the different age babies. When you stop nursing one at an older age or start nursing a young infant at the same time as an older one, does the milk change to infant kind even if it is not your child?

I don't believe it changes. If you yourself have another baby and are nursing a toddler the milk goes back to the colostrum and works its way back up so to speak.

With that said I had once thought I heard that you shouldn't feed a baby whose age varied more that 4 months from your own baby, but I had a friend who's baby was 11 months younger than mine and was having supply issues and her mw asked if I felt comfortable nursing her baby and that it was fine that our children were so far apart in age.

I nursed her little guy once and it was very strange looking down and seeing a different babe at my breast and his latch felt so gentle compaired to my 1yo.

I think it's great and I would wetnurse a baby if they needed it without a doubt. I couldn't have my kdis wetnursed unless the mom was gluten/soy/dairy free b/c of allergies - but aside from that I don't take issue from it so long as I know the mama.

A MDC mama nursed my LO

I was in the ICU for a few days after my homebirth, and my LO was at home being cared for by my mother. Thankfully another MDC mother nursed my LO while I was in the hospital before I could nurse her myself. I am hugely grateful, and even though I couldn't nurse her until she was three days old, she's never had a drop of formula!
