Using olive oil to moisten baby's scalp

I think my baby (1 year) is scratching her head and pulling her hair as a self-soothing technique. Unfortunately, she has scratched too hard and has irritated her scalp. She wakes in the middle of the night crying because her head is so itchy.

Her doctor ordered Neutrogena T/gel but that did not seem to help since her itchiness has become worse. So in the middle of the night, I had enough of waking every 30 minutes and rubbed olive oil on her scalp. That really helped. Now she has oily hair so we tried removing as much as possible with a warm wash cloth.

She also has sandpaper rash on her cheeks. So, is olive oil bad to leave on her hair which makes her facial skin oily? What is another way of removing olive oil from the hair and should I continue using it?

I'm not really sure if this answers your question, but i used theraneem soap on my baby and it cured his dry skin and cradle cap without even having to use moisturizer. I was using oil on his head for the cradle cap, but i didn't have to anymore once I used this soap. I got the bar because it is cheaper, but I bet the liquid stuff works too.

olive oil is a natural anti-fungal and that is why it helps cradle cap. but if your baby's imune system is eliminating yeast or fungus through the scalp it will come back. my dd's cc went away at age 3 when i started supping her with carlson's baby d drops. vit d can help your babys metabolism and elimination and she may no longer have the build up of fungus. good luck.
