Ahhh, the drool

Our baby appears to be working on teething, and there's a pretty constant stream of drool going on. We do our best to keep his little chin dry, but we're fighting a losing battle, and there's some redness and irritation around his mouth/chin - not much, but a bit. Aside from being vigilant about wiping up the drool, what else can we do to keep his skin comfortable?

We aren't big ointment people, and he's been entirely rash-free for his entire life so far, so we're at a loss. Thanks!

Well, I know you said you aren't big ointment people, but Lasinoh Lanolin really helped our LO with her drool rash. It creates a good barrier for the drool, and pretty much helped overnight. I used it the first couple of weeks when nursing since I was dry and cracked, so I figure it's okay if she has it on her face since she still nursed when I put it on.

Are you sure it's the drool causing the problem and not the wiping?

Personally I gave up wiping all but the worst of it weeks ago - he's been like a faucet for over 2 months now. I either put him in a bib or leave him half-naked and put him on absorbent blankets.

That being said, if it is the drool, then I agree with the pp - lanolin would probably be a good choice, but so would unrefined coconut oil.
