Can someone recommend or guide me to articles on the subject? I did a search but every single article or blog post I came across are from religious perspectives (I am not Christian). Is there anything that is not religious?

i did a google search for "secular homeschooling depression" and came up with this yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HeartOfHomeschoolMoms/ it looks like it used to be active, there might be something useful to you in there

As someone who has struggled over the years, I urge you to seek help. Either talk to your doctor for something pharmaceutical (either long-term or temporary) or find a really good therapist who you can talk to. It really does help.

As a bipolar homeschooler, I agree with the pp who suggested seeking help. I know it sounds kind of heartless, but it is VERY true. Before I sought help for my own struggles, I didn't want to do anything at all with my kids (part of the reason my oldest ended up in ps for part of K) and just functioning on a bare minimum level was difficult. Counseling and medication has really helped me, and I am a much better mom, wife, and homeschooler than I was a year and a half ago. i still have bad times, but they are much more manageable since my dh knows what is up and why its going on.

A good support network is also essential to pulling this off successfully. Don't be afraid to ask around your local hs group to find others who struggle with this as well, most moms never say a word because they think they are alone in this to some degree. Reach out and find others, and you can form your own little network to help one another through rough days. I have a couple friends who do that with me now (one is bipolar type 1, I'm type 2, and the other is just a batty chick with 5 kids that I can always talk to for encouragement and uplifting) and I know that anytime I'm having a bad day I just have to e-mail or call one of them and they will help me get focused and grounded so I can make it through the day.
