Homeschooling in a small house - Page 2

NAK

we are in a 16X16 cabin. We kinda do work boxes. First i got two really tall storage thingys from walmart which i fill with each kids main activities for the day then i have two large tote buckets once has school manipulatives and 'other' items and one filled with crafty stuff. Normally it has two books and art project a work book and two manipulative activities.

there is another school tote in the shed that the schooly items get switched out when when needed. projects are done on the kitchen table or on the floor. a suggestion i saw in family fun was to get those wheely kitchen counter wings to use for storage of supplies and a relocatable work area.

I haven't read through the thread, just OP's--
we live in a 750 sq ft studio with three kids and one on the way. Bookshelves are your friend, lol. i have Ikea bookshelves and then a dresser that stores everything that I don't want my kids constantly into. games are high in a closet, and I have one big rubbermaid container that is used for miscellaneous things that don't need to be accessible all the time.
Purge! If you're not using it or enjoying it, get rid of it. This goes for non-HS items as well.
(Honestly, when it comes to crafts, I tend not to want to do them becuase of the mess factor as well.)

We live and homeschool on a sailboat... our solution? Most of our "schooling" happens outside and rather informally. We have decent storage (for a boat) so we grab what we need and head outside to "work" or craft or what have you. On days with bad weather, we just use the only space we have, and yes it can fill up quick, but small spaces also clean up quick, as long as there is a space for everything and things don't live in piles.

We improvise a lot, and we don't hold on to lots of "things". Our biggest challenge is books, since we're reading monsters and can't add in more bookshelf space. Pretty soon the books will sink us
