Help! 9mo dd is biting my nipples!

I nurse my 9mo dd to sleep. I don't mind it and it has been working for us up until these last few days. After she is done feeding she'll start to nibble and/or lightly bite on my nipples. And sometimes it is a full blown bite. (She has two bottom and two top teeth) Ouch! This can be so incredibly painful!

I know she won't understand but I tell her to "be gentle" and I'll put my finger in her mouth to pull out my breast before she can continue chomping. This always leads to her crying as she is usually very close to falling asleep.
I have even tried to slip in a pacifier after she was done feeding, which she hates!

Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea what to do.

Thanks in advance.

The only thing I ever found to work was just what you are doing, taking her off the breast and telling her to be gentle. What a pain that it is happening at bedtime

My son chews my nipples when he is falling to sleep sometimes. once he bite so hard when he was sleeping that I jumped up and cried out. then of course he cried and we had to calm down and start bedtime all over again! I just didn't expect it!

that said, usually it's a passing thing. they do it when they are teething or what have you and then it ends. I've tried every which a way to get my 11 month old to not bite. but he either ends up crying or lauhing b/c he thinks i'm playing with him. He totally doesn't get it b/c I don't think he's aware he is doing it at all.

When my kids used to bite as they were falling asleep, it was usually because they were starting to fall off the nipple a bit. If I concentrated on holding them in close, it didn't happen. GL!

my dd is also 9 months old and has been biting me all day today. She bits down really hard as soon as she starts to nurse. I am wondering if it has to do with eating solids and drinking from sippy cups. None of those things will hurt if she bit them.

I was just coming here to post pretty much this same thing. DD will be 9 months in a few days and she's started biting me pretty often in the last few days. She's got 3 teeth and it hasn't been an issue before. We co-sleep and this morning at like 6am she kept acting like she wanted to nurse, but as soon as she got the boob, she'd bite! It happened about 5 or 6 times before I gave up (normally it would have been sooner, but I was really full so I knew it had been a while since she'd eaten and I figured she was probably actually hungry). She finally did nurse without biting when I offered again around 9am. Then a couple hours later she was rooting around on me and bit me again when I gave her the boob. I took her right off and told her she needed to be gentle and she laughed. I put her down and got her a teether and she was mad for a couple minutes but then she started noshing on it and her brother came by and distracted her too.

We keep waiting for her 2nd top tooth to come in, so I'm thinking maybe it's teething, except that she doesn't seem to be in pain....she just likes to chomp all of a sudden!
