WHat are the best.most effective and cost efficient ways to dry clothes outdoors. I have heard rave reviews on umbrella types but am wondering what others use. The umbrella ones sell for about 89$ here when on sale. We have 7 members of our family so a far amount of laundry!

I bought a cheap umbrella one from Big Lots for about $40.Lol, I broke it just setting it up. Hopefully the one you are looking at is stronger.
My brother buildt a 3 line one for my mom using three 8 foot posts.Cut one post to top each of the other 2,and then added 3 eye screws. It is still doing well 10 years later. I will build that this summer.I had a eye hook attached to the corner of the garage, and the previous owner ran it to a tree that was next to the home.I used that until I had the tree removed due to root intrusion into the crawl space.

I think it depends on a few factors. We live in town and so I have to hang clothes on every other line so I can only get at most 3 large loads out at a time. (I have a umbrella)
I like the umbrella for the fact that you aren't lugging a basket or clothes up and down the line, but I would rather have a homemade long type line because clothes dry faster even in town, you can customize it to fit your needs and it is super cheap. Just make sure to put a extra support in the middle if you make it really long.
I want my DH to make me a long one but we have a very small lot and it would take up a lot of it.

I just bought clothes line at home depot and tied it around the top of the fence and made sure to pull it tight enough. I just picked up 100 ft so I'll end up with about 4 25' rows total (I already had 1 row) so I'll be able to get ALL the washing done in one day rather then only being able to do 1 load. I just wish it didn't make the clothes so crunchy and the smell, ugh, they stink to me. Hoping it goes away after putting in the lawn. (our dirt is well known for having a less then nice odor and it soaks into everything, never expected it to seep into hanging laundry)
