Book recs. about Aspergers?

Hi, our oldest (5yo) was diagnosed with Asperger's today. Not a surprise to either of us, but I guess it has thrown DH for a bit of a loop. He is very much a "doer" and feels the need to do something helpful now. He has asked me to get him some books so he can learn about Asperger's and start figuring out the ways he can best help DS. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

I don't remember the author's name, but the book is called Look Me in the Eye. The author himself has aspergers and tells his story. I haven't read it but a friend whose DD has aspergers has and said it was great.

first of all, i hope you're doing okay. even when it's not a "surprise," hearing things put so definitively can sometimes strike a nerve. for me, it went in little waves for a few weeks, then leveled off, then went in waves again - lol.
anyway, tony attwood is kind of considered the "expert" on asperger's. he has several books. i personally liked this- http://www.amazon.com/Aspergers-Answ...r_pr_orig_subj.
it's not perfect, but is written in a format that's really accessible to many parents. i also really liked, "targeting autism" (forget the author)- it had lots of stories by adults on the spectrum, which i found much more enlightening than all the "experts" opinions. O.A.S.I.S. is a popular one, too. they have a great little thing for family members - http://www.aspergersyndrome.org/Arti...ith-Asper.aspx.
i'd recommend going to the library or a local autism library (through your children's hospital or autism family resource center) and checking things out bit by bit. books are such a personal thing, and only you will know what really resonates with you - and for your son. but don't spend a bunch of money on books - save it for all the other stuff .
good luck finding something you like.
