was your u/s weight estimate close?

I know ultrasounds can be way off for estimating fetal weight, but I'm just curious how accurate the estimates were for mamas who had estimates just prior to birth.

Mine haven't been too far off. Prior to an induction at 38 weeks with my first, she was estimated to be 6lbs 2oz. She was 6lbs 4oz at birth.

I've had several BPPs with this baby in prep for ECVs (baby turned again before the ECVs) as well as for high blood pressure. I'll be interested to see whether the estimates have been close.

This is just for fun--I realize our experiences are anecdotal, and that it really doesn't ultimately matter a whole lot in my case.

Nope, the one estimate I had was off by almost 2 lbs. They estimated that DS was about 8.5lbs. In reality he was closer to 6.5lbs.

I have to say, the estimate really freaked me out. I think it led to a much more difficult birth than it would have been otherwise.

No, not at all. U/S 2 hours before DS was born estimated 4 lbs 2 oz; he was 3 lbs 6.5 oz.

U/S 2 days before DD was born estimated 5 lbs 4 oz; she was 4 lbs 8 oz but I had been IV fluids for a week, so her true weight was probably closer to 4 lbs (lowest weight 3 lbs 11 oz).

I had one done two days before I delivered (at 40 wks 1 day). A very experienced neonatologist did the measurements of both my boys (I was carrying twins), and she used the best equipment/ultrasound/programs available. It was a VERY detailed scan.

Still, she was over a pound off with ds2 (he was 7 pounds on the dot, she was estimating over 8 pounds), and about half a pound off with ds1.

Mine was pretty good. I think she estimated 7 lbs 8 oz at 41 weeks. I delivered at 42 weeks and she was 7 lbs 11 oz. She was a great tech who'd been in the biz a loooong time, and she works with all the HB midwives, which I think made her less prone to fear mongering.

No. Both times they said my babies would be over 8 lbs and both times they were just under 7 lbs. That's quite a difference.

Yes, actually. I had one done the day before I had DD (we'd got to 43 weeks and wanted to check everything was okay) The doctor estimated her weight at 4 kilos, and when she was born next day she weighed 4020g so almost exactly spot-on.

(The funny thing was that they were trying to scare me into an induction/c-section and thought that telling me she was 4 kilos would frighten me so much I'd instantly cave!! When in fact I was expecting a much bigger baby - my mom, who's smaller than me had two 9lb 4oz babies, so I was fully expecting a close to 10lber. But instead she was only 8lb 13oz!)

My DD was the only one I had a late u/s for, and she was estimated at 9lbs 2oz. She was born two days later at 10lbs 4oz.

Interesting there are so many guesses on the big side. My 3rd baby was estimated to be 5 1/2 pounds but came out 6 1/2 pounds (ya, at 34 weeks!).

Well, my kids are older now so I hope you don't mind an old estimate chiming in . Dd#1 was a 42 weeker and we had an u/s a few days before she was born to check fluid levels, size, etc. They told us that she would be approx. 6 lbs. and no more. She was 8lbs.1oz.

None of the estimates were right. Ultrasounds as close as a couple of days before delivery said she'd be at least 7 or 7-1/2 pounds. And, the ultrasound a few weeks before my EDD said she was 7 pounds at the time! She was 6-8 at birth. (Midwife also estimated at least 7 or 7-1/2 by "feel")

My neighbor was just induced at 37 weeks because the doctors were telling her that the baby was already well over 8 pounds and would be huge if they didn't induce her early. Baby was born and was 6 pounds 1 oz.

with DS they told me he was going to be well over 8 pounds... close to 9. When he was born he was 7 pounds 13 oz. This time around they tell me my LO is much bigger than ds was and will be "for sure" over 8 pounds. We shall see in about 4 weeks if they were right.

2 days before DD was born they said she was about 7 lbs, she was 6-11 so pretty close.

2 our of 3 were close. The one that was off was my first son and they were estimating 8+ lb (Oh no, freak out, that's too big!!!!! ). He was 6 lb 14 oz at birth.

My other two were estimated "around 10 lb" and "close to 11 lb" (cue the gloom and doom from the doctors). They were 9lb15oz and 10lb8oz respectively. Oddly, the lighter one of those two is the one I had minor complications with--excessive bleeding and a little tearing. The heaviest of all was a completely uncomplicated birth

estimate at 38 wk was 8lb 1oz by u/s, and around 8lb by palpation.. he was born at 41w2d at 9lb 8oz

I had a biophysical profile ultrasound done on my daughter the day she was born (they were trying to determine why I was contracting so much and if anything else was going on.) They estimated 4 pounds, but told me to "give or take about 12 ounces." They turned out to be really close, she was 4 pounds, 1 ounce. I know they were very skilled technicians though, so that may have had something to do with it.

Actually what I found most interesting was that they could see from the ultrasound that she would have a lot of hair! I had no idea you could see that. Sure enough, she had about an inch and a half all over her head despite being 7 weeks early.

Nope. They told me he would be, "well over 10 lbs" and he was 8 lb 12 oz.
