I just put my baby to sleep half an hour ago. Tonight, i started out trying my usual nursing, which he wiggled away from like I was making him eat nails. So i tried walking him again, which he has liked for the last 2 days and never before. That didn't work. Frustrated, I laid him down and laid a foot away from him with a hand on his chest. He went to sleep! Just like that! Poof! Did I mention he is only 5 months? Is he really already progressing past the need to be helped to sleep?

That's awesome!
I don't want to rain on your parade, because it's well-deserved, but it probably won't last forever. If he's like my kids, he'll have another three or four rounds of stages when he's a lot harder to get to sleep. But maybe not! |

Enjoy!

Yeah, enjoy it while it lasts, because it is probably a shorter phase at this point. Good luck!
My DD slept 8 hours a night at two weeks of age, until 3 months (in my bed with me, or in the bassinet beside me). It was shocking, because my DS hadn't slept more than 4 hours in a row until he was about 15 months of age. Alas, it did end, but in hindsight, what a break I got!

This is exactly what my son did at 9.5 months after we had tried all the usual ways of getting him to sleep and we've not looked back since! We made sure that every night from then on we laid down with him and it quickly became routine. I would never have believed it since he had needed motion to get to sleep from birth up until that point.
