negative HPTs, but pregnant?

Anyone ever get all negative HPTs but get a positive from the doctor? I'm showing every single sign of pregnancy (sore breasts on the sides, nausea, missed period, headache, spotting 2 1/2 weeks ago, bloating, CM) EXCEPT for a BFP @ home! I'm only 1 week late (odd from my clockwork cycle). How much longer do you suggest I wait before making a doctor's appointment? I know I could just a very low level of hCG. I've read of women not knowing they were pregnant for a while.

If I am pregnant, I would be 5 weeks.

Just wondering, not looking for any hope here, just wondering if any women have gone through this, and how long to wait?

THank you! JULIE

Call your doctors office and see what THEY suggest you do.

Some would have you come in for a test right away... mine would make you wait until you miss your next period because all of those symptoms do not mean you are pregnant (but then, its a bit more hassle to do a blood test through my doctors office as it has to then be shipped off to a lab and wait for results which can take several days, during which either AF or a BFP will probably show up)

Warning though, if they say to come in right away, clarify over the phone that they will not be doing a urine test since yours are negative. No matter what they try to tell you, a FRER is more sensitive than the tests most doctors offices use. I waited almost 2 weeks to go into my doctors office to do their pee test for my pregnancy confirmation just so I wasn't told I'm not pregnant lol.

With my daughter, I didn't get a positive until 17 days after I ovulated - which, because I have a 11-12 day lp, was nearly a week after i expected my period.

That being said, I don't know that I was using the most sensitive test, 'cause I wasn't really paying attention then... nor was I looking for little shadow lines...

Anyway, good luck! I hope you are pregnant! (assuming that is what you want!)

A friend of mine said that when her mom was pregnant (with her) she didn't show a positive on a store bought test until 3 months. She thought it was stress until the doctor did a blood test...

Thank you ladies... I will wait another week or two and then call for a test perhaps? Excellent reminder to make sure they do a BLOOD test and not a urine test. I live about an hour away from the closest dollar store place, but I think the hour drive for some cheap HPTs might be worth it? I guess what I mean is, I'd feel like a complete fool going in to the doctor's office for a blood test when all the negative results were indeed accurate.

There's no rhyme or reason for why AF would be late. It's just such an awkward time.... waiting.....

I indeed do want to get pregnant, so this would be a wonderful thing!

Thank you again!

Well, there IS rhyme or reason to why AF is late

either you are pregnant or your ovulation was delayed or just plain didnt happen. That happens to perfectly healthy women with no problems or stress sometimes. I went through the same in october 2008... AF ended up 2 weeks late but there was seemingly no reason, I had no added stress, no sickness and I was usually right on time every month, 26 to 30 days.

when you get the blood test, make sure to specify that you want a QUANTITATIVE hcg test, not a qualitative one. the quant will actually give you the level of hcg in your system, whereas the qualitative will just say pregnant or not pregnant.

i've seen users on this board who didn't get a positive home test until after their positive blood test, and even with ultrasounds confirming that they got pregnant when they thought they did, some still did not get positives till way after their period was due. really, it doesn't just depend on how much hcg you're producing, it also depends on how much of it you metabolize into your urine.

Did you know you don't have to go to the doctor for a blood test? I experienced something similar last year (I wasn't pregnant, it was just a super wonky cycle) and couldn't get an appointment with a doc for three weeks...and it would have taken them another week to get back to me with the results. Since I wasn't about to wait another month, I found out that most labs that do walk-in drug testing also do blood pregnancy tests. They actually gave ME the results the next day (sent a link to my e-mail where I could enter a password and get them online), for about $35. Same lab the doctor's office said would take a week, so you know they just sit on the results until they get around to calling you. So you may want to look into that. It's not something that has to be ordered by a doctor, just like a cholesterol check or workplace drug testing.
