And does the spelling affect how you would pronounce it? We want the name pronounced Ay-dree-AHN-ah not Ay-dree-ANN-ah. We know we will have to correct people a lot with this name, and we are ok with that, but would still like to minimize mispronunciation if possible. We were thinking we like the look of it spelled with 2 N's, but think maybe we'd be more likely to get the pronunciation we want with one...oh, the middle name will be Max.

We named our DD Juliana (pronounced Julie-AHN-ah, not ANN-ah). We constantly get asked how it's pronounced and how it's spelled However, I do think 1 N is more likely to get the AHN-ah result.

I agree with the PP's point, "anna" is more likely to be pronounced that way.

I voted before I read the whole post DOH!. So I change my selection to Adriana....I would pronounce it the way you intend it if you used only one "N"

ana = Ahn-ah
anna = Ann-ah

One N if you want it pronounced AHN-ah.

Just as a side note, I keep pronouncing the first A as AH (as apposed to AY) when the second sound is also AHnah. I find it a little hard to say organically with the two different A sounds so close together. I hope that makes sense. But, for what it's worth I do like the pronunciation you've chosen.

I think you're going to get Ay-dree-ANN-ah no matter what spelling you use. It's the prevalent pronunciation and I don't think spelling it with two n's is going to affect that.

A friend of minds daughter is an Adriana... (ahn-ah not anne-ah) and I didnt mention this until asking her about it... she said it is never mispronounced and people ask how to spell it just as often as they do any name. (her brothers name is Johnathon... and is asked how to spell just as often)
