Which probiotic do you recommend?

There are so many of them out there. I've read that many are useless because if they are not refrigerated the bacteria all die off so you're throwing your money away. I can't stand yogurt, so I need something in pill form.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

kyodophilus doesnt need to be refrigerated, iirc. i like it cuz it has enzyme as well.

garden of life is another good one.

if you dont like yogurt, maybe other lacto-fermented foods would agree with you? hop over to the TF forum for more info

Florastor is a really great probiotic. It does contain lactose if that is an issue. It doesn't colonize so you need to keep taking it. Culturelle is another good one that doesn't colonize. We use those and also use Klaire labs ther-biotic complete (that one would colonize though, really, you need to keep taking probiotics if possible).

Natren. They do need to be refrigerated, but come in capsule, powder, dairy-free. They also make other probiotic products. Probiotics are all they do. Also, their customer service is great. If you call the toll free number on the bottle w/a question, you get a person and they are very polite and knowledgeable/helpful. I highly recommended them.

Thanks!

Some questions:

What's the TF forum?

What other foods are lacto-fermented besides yogurt?

Why would some probiotics colonize, and others not? Is one type better than the other?

Water kefir. It is as easy as making lemonade, tastes about the same and tons more probiotic benefit than bottled probiotics.

VSL 3 is amazing. I have had pretty intense (but not as severe as many who use it) digestive issues, gluten sensitivity and chronic yeast infections and this REALLY REALLY helped after like 8 years of trying other "good" brands. pricy but fantastic. plus its well researched.

Traditional Foods.

Lots of other foods can be lacto-fermented. One of my fave fruits is strawberries, and my fave veg is saurkraut.

I absolutely LOVE kombucha.

I also make homemade ginger ale using water kefir grains. I got my cultures from an MDC mama here.

Wow, ladies! Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I will look into them all. I am very interested in kefir since I've been The Makers Diet and the author recommends them. I had no idea what kefir was!
