I finally did it.... I broke a needle while sewing!

I took up sewing a few years ago. I have read about people breaking machine needles while sewing, but it never happened to me until yesterday! It was my own fault. I was tired and in a hurry. I had been finishing up a nighty for dd and was on the last part just before dinner. I was using the straight stitch foot and needed to switch stitches to zig zag. I set the zig zag stitch and I forgot to change the foot before starting. The machine beeped and stuttered a bit and I heard the needle snap. UGH! I looked down and saw it. I thought I broke the machine, but everything seems to be fine and I finished the nighty w/a new needle.

That is all. I just wanted to share!

Welcome to the club! I break needles on pins all the time, and then have to get pliers and try to yank the bent pin out of the sewing machine LOL.

You've been sewing a few YEARS and that's the FIRST TIME it's ever happened? Congrats on lasting that long. LOL! It happens to me occasionally. Like the pp said, welcome to the club.

Im impressed that you have been sewing for years, AND you use the straight stitch foot and you havent done that before. I dont use the straight stitch foot at all anymore for that very reason; the zigzag foot sews a straight stitch fine for me. I have been sewing a few years too, but i have broken lots and lots of needles.

broken needle club!
i remember the first time it happened to me, i read online about someone having an eye injury as a result and she always sewed in goggles after that.
it made me very paranoid, but not enough to wear goggles...
