Oh my, what happened???

Okay, DD has been pretty colicky since day one. We spent quite a few weeks ready to murder each other (me and DH) when she was absolutely unconsolable for hours on end. One day I put her to bed at 6:30. I had had enough I was tired, my toddler was tired so I gave DD a bath and fed her and she slept six hours and woke up twice to eat that night. So that's our new thing as hard as that 630 time is between dinner and a toddler and a hubby who works until all hours. So I thought we'd figured it out and now the past three days from about 1pm to 630 DD is back at it. She is just so upset and miserable and I can't figure out what's up. I try to put her down to sleep (swaddled, fed, burped, pacifier, bounced, rocked, walked, Moby wrapped etc.) and she just sleeps maybe 20 -45 minutes and is up and back to being unhappy (the car seat doesn't work either). I'm at my wits end between her and my toddler who is starting to show signs of stress at school (I was asked yesterday when I picked him up if something is going on at home because of the way he's been acting). I don't know what to do anymore! Please help me. I can't even think straight anymore because I'm so frazzled.

oh no! I just wanted to give some support. If it's any help at all, my crazy colicky baby just 'grew out of it' for the most part at around 6 months. He's still pissy quite a bit of the time, but doesn't cry all the time.

Have you tired static on the radio? side lying nursing?

what are naps like? a good nap plan saved my rough sleeper. until about 4 months you should aim for 1.5-2 hours of awake time and then nap, with the first nap of the day being closer to 1.5.

that said, i know it's tough. even with our new and improved napping, things still got dicey at the end of the day. where i had been on-point with the "schedule" at the beginning of the day things got all helter skelter by afternoon and she got crankier and crankier. good luck.

Any chance she could be teething?

thanks every one. of course i have my MIL over to watch the kids this morning so I could go to the dentist and I come home and she thinks I'm insane because DD has been "cooing and smiling all morning she's such a doll"

is teething possible at 3 months? DS didn't get his first tooth until 9 mos!

i was looking back over our week and noticed i increased my egg consumption from easter. i've had eggs every day pretty much so those are out (i don't eat dairy or wheat so those are out already). Just to see.

Last night was rough too. She wouldn't stay asleep until I finally put her in the swing and when she had nodded off I held her for about an hour and then she was okay. I wonder if it's a reflux thing? I don't know. So far today she's had one 45 minute nap and is napping again in the moby. i am taking my son to the pediatrician this afternoon for his sinus infection so i'll run it by him but i really think i have to figure out how to make sure she doesn't get overtired/overstimulated. i didn't think i would have an issue going from one to two kids but i just can't seem to get organized. blah! what a learning curve how do people with four and more do it?!??! i'm so envious they can swing it. i'm barely making it through the days over here!

Hugs! You are more organized than you feel and don't compare yourself to others.

My first son was high needs and colicky. He didn't sleep more than a two hour stretch until he was 18 months old. Teething issues can start that early, sure. Or, it may be reflux. My son had both. He didn't cut his first tooth until he was seven months but he started trying to around 3 months. The drool was unbelievable. He would go through at least three outfits a day and twice as many bibs because he would just soak them through.

This too shall pass. Easier said than done but concentrate on taking care of your family's needs and don't bother what others think. Have you tried more outside time with your daughter? My son absolutely lived to be outside - if we were inside he was miserable. When he started crawling and 8 months and walking by 9 months he was much happier because he could get around. We also did sign language and he started signing at 8 months, that made a difference as well.

Now at almost six years old he is an amazing child but still doesn't require as much sleep as most. His little sister is almost 9 months old and she is a breeze compared to him and we still struggle with getting out of the house on time.

Sounds like you're doing a good job - survival mode until she moves out of her colicky stage (and, as you've mentioned, keep an eye on allergies/reflux).

nah, give yourself some credit! a friend of mine with 9 kids swears the 2nd is the hardest....and that 2 is the same as 6. (not something i particularly want to find out on my own though!)

Both my kids were early teethers, DD got her first tooth at 3.5 months, she started teething at 3 months or so. DS started teething at 3 months also, but it took until 5.5 months for his first tooth. He literally was grabbing his mouth and screaming, and he's pretty laid back most of the time. He just cut his 2nd tooth yesterday and he's been *moody*.
