worst mother ever

I left my 2 month old ds w/ my brother so that I could take my dd swimming. I was gone for 1.5 hours. When I picked him up he had been crying for an hour bc I had put a stopper on the bottle and forgotten to tell my brother. I feel terrible.

I think you should cut yourself some slack. How were you to know your brother wouldn't realize that the bottle had a stopper? I'm guessing he's feeling kind right now too

Sorry, mama, that one doesn't earn you the "Worst Mom of 2010" award. I just read an article about a kid forgotten at Chuck E Cheese, left there until closing and then placed in foster care...after his own 3rd birthday party. I think you're doing ok!

Dear Ms. sarahr,

We have received your application for the position of "Worst Mama Ever" (WME) and our personnel department has evaluated your credentials carefully. I regret to inform you that you do not qualify.

In the future, when applying for a job of this sort, do not embarrass yourself in your cover letter by admitting that you "left the baby with" another adult. A truly qualified WME would have left her baby on the doorstep. You further disqualify yourself by stating that you left your baby to pursue an activity with your other child. The caliber of WME that we seek leaves her baby in order to drink margaritas in Tahiti while frolicking with Colin Firth.

I applaud your ambition in applying for a position with our firm, but feel I am doing you a favor by discouraging you from this line of work. I wish you every success in finding a position you are more qualified for.

Sincerely,

Besides, I have you beat. My little guy crashed head first into the hardwood twice in one day because I had the audacity to want to pee by myself and didn't realize that he had become fully mobile. When DH got home I had to take a trip to BRU to pick up a crib to put him in while I pee now (this was just 2 days ago).

awww, I bet that was heartbreaking. It so sucks to see our kids sad/uncomfortable/hurt/etc and know that we contributed to it.
I'm still traumatized by the time that I cut a bit of ds's skin off while trying to cut his nails. Poor poor baby But he's long been over it.
We're bothered by that stuff way longer than they are!

So your brother didn't try and investigate why no milk was coming out of the bottle? I think you are fine, I think he gets the award for not problem solving.

There are so many things going on every minute when you have kids. It just isn't possible to remember/handle all of it. Sorry your babe had a rough time of it, but if its the worst thing you ever do to him... you're doing pretty well.

Nah, that doesn't make you the worst mama ever, it just puts you into the Real Mama Club, where all the moms have done something goofy like that at some point in their parenting.

Worst babysitting moment ever: I left 3 month old DS with my MIL who cradled him in response to him crying! She had a big wet spot on her boob by the time I got home...she hadn't figured out he was angrily rooting for a breast that just never appeared!

8 mo DD is doing a good job crawling up the stairs. She could almost get the whole way up without slipping.

Um, I was on MDC yesterday when I realised it was too quiet. She was at the top of the stairs. Apparently she can now do the whole stairs without slipping. Good job too... Worst mum ever
