Mothering is considering a radio program. Right now we
are looking at a variety - radio show with live call in to ask
questions, podcasts, webinars, and an MDC show.

We were hoping for some input from the community.

Please let us know what you think.

Here is a link to the previous radio program

Topics: Infant sleep issues, vaccination information, Traditional Foods info

Interviews: Dr. Sears, Nina Planck, Nora Gedgaudas

Interview moms from the MDC community. I'd love to hear real live MDC moms on the program.

Address attachment parenting and gently parenting older children.

This would be terrific!

I'll have to listen to the previous show.

Peggy hosting would be great, but if she can't I'd still listen.

For interviews...Dr. Sears, Nina Planck, Michael Pollan, wish Mr. Rogers was still alive, Jamie Oliver...can't think of anyone else off-hand.

Topics, sure the usual babywearing, breastfeeding, GD issues, but as a mom with older kids I would love to hear some topics more relevant to parents with older children and teens. And not all rosey ones either...raising kids AP doesn't guarantee a smooth, drama free adolescense. Food is a topic I love! Eating healthy and sure, nobody can agree totally on what a "healthy" diet is, but you could bring in people with different points of view and people can figure out what is best for their family.

Podcasts preferable just because it's easier to listen then when it's convenient for me.

I gotta run!

Sounds great! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Sounds awesome! I'd love to hear nighttime parenting and gentle discipline discussed, and interviews with Dr. (William) Sears, Alfie Kohn, and Naomi Aldort.

I'd prefer a podcast that can be downloaded & listened to over & over, and when I want. I work full time, and have my iPod to passx the time. Nothing would be better than listening to Mothering (well, I still like my knitting podcasts too )!!

Topics I'd like to hear about: vaxes, gentle discipline, babywearing, etc.

I'd like to hear interviews w/ MDC moms, and those already listed above.

i would love to see one on sleep and sleep issues. also on realistic expectations of children.

podcast for me too.

eta* more ideas - balancing life and work, filling your childs needs without ignoring your own, the role of AP fathers,

I agree, it would be cool to hear more stuff applicable to parenting older children & teens or general family living topics. Since my youngest is 11ish, I don't really have a need for bf & diapering type topics much anymore.

Speakers: Naomi Aldort, Pam Leo, anyone from The Natural Child Project, Alfie Kohn, Lawrence Cohen, etc

Topics: High need children, family balance, practical parenting tips (so many books offer theories, but it would be nice to have real examples - when my child does this, this is how I can react..., nursing toddlers - what to expect, natural family living

I would love to see a podcast. Talking about topical issues like sleep, raising older children and tips for past the baby stage. Sue Atkins- positive parents, Alfie Kohn, Steve Biddulph, Dr R Golinkoff.

I like the idea of a call in show and live webinars but what's great also about the Mothering community is that it's worldwide community. I'd want to hear their voices.
Looking forward to seeing a podcast from you guys

do you have to have an ipod to listen to podcasts? Id love to see something that you could click and listen at will, like when you are folding laundry.

Would love a podcast on keeping up with the house while raising small children!
No you don't need an iPod to listen to a podcast.

You can download the show and listen from your computer/laptop.

Having a portable media player like and iPod, iphone etc that you can put into a speaker is what I use so I can listen to all my podcasts wherever I am in the house. I just unplug and plug in the new place. Not stuck in one place to listen or have to use the earphones.
I can listen in the car as well with an adapter.

No-circ, No-CIO, Traditional Foods, TV-Free, Support and encouragement for parents working together as partners in raising children, Unschooling, Gentle Discipline/Treating children with respect, Waterbirth/Homebirth

Just off the top of my head. That's all I can think of for now

Thanks for making space for our input! I'm feeling especially inspired by the birth of your radio programming because I was secretly dreaming of moving to Santa Fe to Intern with you and help you start a radio show! ( Just my quiet little fantasy ) And within a few months of having this dream, I see that you are in the process now! Wow!

So here's what I think would be another great idea for you to maybe consider. I've had the special chance of working with Tanya Taylor on the Writing Into Motherhood Project this last month (and thank you very much for this!). What I've realized is just how good it feels to hear stories about motherhood from other mothers. Hearing advice and snippets like we share on the forum usually is great too, but to really pour your heart and emotion into writing and then share it with other mom's is pretty sensationally wonderful. I think that in our time and place, its so easy to miss out on the sharing that may have taken place in times when communities were more closely knit and storytelling was main source of entertainment, education and means of passing the long nights together.

I think that combining this type of sharing into a radio format would work brilliantly. I'm imagining something similar to This American Life, which I feel is one of the most compelling radio shows around ( I'm often found on Saturday's waiting in the drive way in my car because I can't peel myself away from the story being told long enough to make it from the car to the radio inside the house...and I don't think I'm the only one, I'm pretty sure over 1/2 million people download the shows every week from their website)
I love the way they weave real life stories with music, and focus them around a theme that can bring together connection between people and worlds that may seem distant from each other. I think that real life stories written about mothering, child rearing and birthing can be tremendous sources of inspiration & humor and that women would really enjoy and benefit from sharing and hearing these stories. I think Mothering is the perfect place for a show like this

You may even be able to draw upon the forum members for content, I know from working with 30 amazing mothers the past 4 weeks that these mama's are a wealth of amazing stories. And I'm so glad that everyone will soon have the chance to share in these stories on the website for Mother's Day!

Best Wishes & Keep Up the Great work!

I'd definitely listen! I'd prefer downloadable podcasts though as my son is only 10 months so he never sleeps or sits still for very long

I'd love to hear interviews with Jan Tritten, Aletha Solter (aware parenting), Dr. Sears, Laura Shanley (Unassisted childbirth)...

How about partner assisted childbirth, as a way of increasing intimacy.

Delaying solids, elimination communication, issues with formula (like the new chocolate flavored kind - disgusting, Nestle's issues with WHO, the studies comparing breastfeeding to formula feeding), tandem nursing, birth as it relates to sexuality, food allergies in infants (via breastmilk) and afterwards, long-term breastfeeding of older children, not circumcising - circumcision as a human rights issue, human rights issues when it comes to birthing in a hospital (episiotomy, the giving of pitocen, and other medications, laying flat on your back verses active birth (where the mother can move, eat and do as she wishes through labour), the managing of birth as a medical condition, rather than a natural physical process. Unassisted pregnancy, the effects of ultrasound on an unborn child, the myth of due dates, the use of foods during pregnancy to supply vitamins rather than synthetic prenatals - ie bee pollen, spirulina, chlorella, herbs..etc.

I can go on and on - anyways I love the idea of it, and i would absoutely tune in.
