4 chickens + 2 days = ...

... 11 eggs!!! We've also had 2 5-egg days in the last 2 weeks.

These little gals are out of control! Hardly slowed down at all during the winter although I didn't provide artificial light.

My neighbors and co-workers are loving the egg tsunami.

I was suprised too that my red sex link hens gave eggs all winter despite the cold and lack of light.

WOW! Impressive!

Very nice! My golden sex link gave us eggs all winter as well. Our araucaunas stopped and one molted hard while the other one didn't really, but I'm about to put a light in their coop because I'm getting frustrated at the lack of eggs. 1 egg a day doesn't feed a family of 5.5!

So am I understanding that you have a couple chickens laying more than one egg a day? Are you collecting the eggs at the same time every day? I'd be feeding some serious high protein if they are double laying because that will take a lot out of the hens. Seems super rare.

I'm not lying, if that's your implication.

some of them are laying more than 1 egg/day; collecting at the same time; they all lay in the same nesting box so it's not that I'm missing some one day and getting them the next; I give them layer pellet with oyster shell and random fruits and vegetables; they free range the yard a couple of times a week

I got them at 4 months and they were already laying. In fact, 1 laid an egg in transit through the mail. And I'm not lying about that either.

It is rare, you don't hear about it happening much. We've had it happen once or twice with the buff's we have at my moms. But it was when we'd left the light on for 24 hrs on accident so I'm sure that wacked out their systems.

Griffin~what kind of hens are they?

Hey Griffin, simmer down now. I wasn't implying you were lying, I am just shocked because it has never happened for me in 8 years of keeping chickens and I haven't heard of it...as I stated, it seems super rare. You are fortunate indeed to have the extra eggs and it is extraordinary. Congratulations!

Nice! Both leghorns I've owned sometimes laid 2 eggs a day, and my plymouth rock kept laying 1 egg a day through the winter with no heat or light (though we do live in the city, so it's not super dark at night)
