Homebirth without running water, tips?

Hello ladies.

We live off the grid, per se, in that we have electricity but no running water or sewer. The closet neighbor is about a mile away, we love it! The thing is, we are planning a homebirth. My midwife is comfortable with us not having running water, so that's good.

I was wondering if there are any other ladies that have done a homebirth in similar lifestyle and have any tips for us?

I had 2 homebirths, but did have running water. Really the only time it was needed was when I wanted to shower after the birth to clean myself off.I would think a big pot or 2 of warm water on the stove would be enough.

Wishing you a healthy birth!

This. I would think it wouldn't be a huge deal. I only use it for my herbal bath afterwards. Except for my waterbirth, that is, lol.

Are your midwives at least willing to rinse anything bloody for you? That way your dh can wash when they are gone, but it will have been rinsed.

I would LOVE to have a waterbirth, next time. For washing up, we would have 2 big pots of water on the wood stove and we could use our solar shower bag for bathing afterwards (we use it now for doing dishes).

I assisted a client with her homebirth, off-the-grid with no water/sewer. Her husband set up a 20 gallon water tank and an on-demand water heater, just so she could have a waterbirth. Used a horse water trough. So, I guess something like that could be done. Just thought I would throw the question out there. Thanks for the replies.

I've had a homebirth and now live waterless so know about both situations. It shouldn't be a problem as has been said. I'd get a porta potty for the bed room if you don't already have one. We have a cheap one from a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet lid that we use in the winter. Make sure your midwife has extra chux pads to keep sheets from getting bloody. Good luck.
