Cloth diaper help...

Ok, so to all you mommies out there cloth diapering... I need some help!!! Our current diapers are "MotherEase" - which have worked VERY well from birth to PreK for both my boys, but both are "potty trained" with no need for diapers during the day. I still put diapers on both at night though (youngest (2) likely would be ok without it though) . The problem is my oldest (4 in August) wets the bed nearly every night And by that, I mean he soaks through the cloth diaper with the extra liner and leaks out the cover so that the whole bed is wet. My hubby has "checked" him a couple of times during the night recently and he's wet as early as 10 or 11 p.m. sometimes (and sleeps through it) and then must pee several more times during the night. So, we have a couple of options: 1) buy some other kind of diaper or 2) wake him several times during the night to go pee..... I think we'll go with option 1!!! (and, for what it's worth, I do think he'll continue to wet the bed for some time).
I know there are night time diapers (underjams and all that), but I would very much love to continue to use cloth - even though I do realize that the initial cost is more!
So, does any one have any recommendations for some REALLY effective cloth diapers that will work at night for a 40+ child (he's 40 lbs now... and as I mentioned, not likely to grow out of this for awhile!). He has also complained that the diaper is "too tight" (though with a slight readjust he's fine. they do still fit him, but probably not for long....and are no longer effective at night for him anyway

Thanks!!!

Sorry... no help here on diapering bigger kids (my 4 year old only just hit 30 lbs), buuuuut, I can give your thread a bump.

Also, have you tried chiropractic? I know occasionally a few adjustments can help with bed wetting. Also, I know some of my friends have had good luck for their kids by cutting out milk in the evenings... apparently it makes you pee more or something? What we ended up doing w/DD was (is... we still do this) taking her to pee right before we go to bed, but she was wetting not long before morning/waking up, so that helped hold her over... sounds like that may not work as well in your situation.

Good luck!

I haven't tried these but if you like the motherease product they do make products for older children.

A PP mentioned cutting the milk, good idea, I think it makes them sleep deeper. Also I would cut/stop drinks a set amount of time before bed as well.

I have no help with the diaper situation but I might try 2 toddler prefolds with a cover maybe wool if I were in you shoes.

As far as the diaper issue, I think you would have the best luck contacting a WAHM diaper maker and having something made for your son. Off hand, I would recommend Ruth at Snap-EZ because her pocket diapers are great, and I know she does (or, at least, did) make adult incontinence products, so she should be able to make you a good, absorbent diaper for an older child.

thanks for the posts mamas! Regarding the milk...he gets very little to drink and that usually only in the morning (we use raw milk - he can't tolerate (allergic to) pasteurized). He doesn't drink alot (usually) later in the evening, but that has not really seemed to make a difference either way!
Juvysen - yep, we have a chiropractor (kinesiolgist really - he does no "popping" - BUT very very effective) who has helped us SOOOO much with so many different issues with our boys.
As far as sleeping deeply - well, my theory is that he's making up for "lost" sleep ... he was a TERRIBLE sleeper til about 13 or so months old... since then he's slept better and better to the point we are at now where he sleeps through peeing! (Is that considered progress?? I suppose for me as a sleep deprived mommy, yes! We've considered waking him in the middle of the night (when his 2 yo brother wakes), but I figure he needs sleep more than I need to not have another load of laundry to wash

So, I guess I never really thought of my son as a "big" preschooler ... his height and weight are actually just at or near average?!?! But, if 40 lbs for 3 yr 8 mo old is big, should I look at different diapers than "typical"??

My concern is this: there are SOOO many different options for diapering, but I'd REALLY like to see comments from someone who has actually used - and had success with - a product because narrowing it down has been difficult for me (The diapers or pull ups LOOK great...but will it work in my (or similar situation???).....If I'm gonna spend $18 - 30 + on a few night time dipes - I'd like to have some confidence that it MIGHT be a good option for me to spend my $$ on!!

Some stores will let you return dipes that don't work for you... maybe they will w/pull-ups too?
