April low carb support thread! - Page 5

Great job on the C25K start sugarmoon!

LilEM I am cheering for you and there with you too. I have been under 50 c a day for about a week...maybe more like 2. I am feeling pretty good. The first week was hard and I spent the first 2 days closer to 60-70 c just from veggies, greek yogurt, etc. Anyway, I plan to continue for an unknown amount of time. I have lost 4 lbs since starting, so that is motivating for me!

Lisa, sounds like an awesome workout yesterday! How are things going training wise?

I took Friday off from working out and used my lunch time to take my 5 year old dd on a "girl style date" in her words. She is so funny, she just lost her first tooth...she just thinks she is so grown up!

Workout today was circuit style, but I added heavier weights and extra sprints, then a "circuit" at the end with abs and clean and presses. It wasn't terribly long, about an hour, but it felt like a good overall workout. Then I went to our old house and cleaned for 5 straight hours. I didn't eat a whole lot in the morning/afternoon (small serving of eggs/sausage, KIND bar nuts 11 g carb, string cheese), but I ate a HUGE dinner. We had ribs, and I ate a lot, and I still feel like I could eat....just one of those days.

Tomorrow will bring a bit more cleaning, and hopefully a nice leisurely run with some friends in the SUNSHINE in the morning!

sugarmoon- congrats on the C25K- I have never been super strict w/ counting- at the beginning I looked a lot of things up so I could keep mental track but eating pretty lc w/out processed foods it is pretty easy- meats and fats are zero- so the only thing to track is pretty much the veggies and nuts- but nuts are mostly the same 4-5 g per serving. I don't subtract fiber if I am counting.

lil_em- I will be cheering you on as well- sugar is the devil!

ryleighs_mama- oh ribs- I still haven't made them again here- must do that! I cannot believe your 5 y.o. lost a tooth! My son turns 6 in July and still hasn't I think it must be getting closer though! Sounds like you guys are super busy as well!

Things are CRAZY here! My house looks like wild banshees live here currently- and of course my fil stopped by on the day my house is dirtier than I can remember it being- even dh conceded it is pretty bad. SIGH! However, I have making fancier meals(most nights) for supper, which has been on time! And we are doing lots of activities togethers w/ the kids- I told dh he has to help me get it back together today and not do anything else. So, today we are cleaning house and some science experiments w/ the kids. By the end of the day I hope to curl up w/ a good book!

Last night it was thai curry from the crockpot365blog it was excellent- I tweaked the recipe of course- added some tomato and mushrooms as that is what I had on hand and kind of did my own paste. It was so nice coming in and having supper ready- I was so proud! I told dh ironic my house is a wreck but we have delicious homecooked meals!

Anyway, last week I tried upping the carbs for maintenance- which worked in that aspect but I feel better lower carb. So, yet again this week I am going to try and even things out and find that balance. Oh, and I am going to *try* and go back off the computer- which I believe is also a reason for the housee falling apart. Good luck to you lovely ladies!

On the menu today;
bbq beef w/ the bbq sauce from garden of eating(cooked the roast all night already so it will be super duper tender)
coleslaw(already have the mayo made)
baked beans(have my beans soaking as we speak)
nice big salad!!!
Ooooh ribs, my family would be jealous! I need to get the grill outa the garage and give it a good cleaning.

Crunchy i know what you mean, I haven't been on the computer much at all anymore. Even when I stop just for a second to check something...there goes 15 mintues and I hear myself saying "just a minute, in a minute, hold on...." to the kids too much.

Ryleih's mama workouts are goin great! My quads are ripping out more, I started squatting again but only once a week or every other heavier and I for the first time ever used the plate loaded hack squat. I am normally a fan of free squats but I find this really hits quads so good and over the knee. Still doing heavy walkign lunges, tomorrow i'll try doingi 80 pounds once.

A few woman have told me I have nice arms/wish I had your arms comments lately so that is a sure sign I'm doin my work LOL. I'm a bit leaner, only by about 1 pound but it makes a HUGE difference for me, and also to keep drinking enough water, low enough carb and keep out the salt. I feel MUCH better just where i am right now and it's easy to maintain. I cannot decide if I want to do a show in october. Iron man is coming up and I know i'm already almost there but i just can't decide!! I need to do it soon I guess, I've heard someone would help with the cost aspect but i don't know who. I am really embarassed to be in the gym in a bikini even if it IS upstairs and most likely no one will come, but you can see through the windows from downstairs. I need my friend to take pics though!!!

Everyone have a great week I probably won't be on the computer much. Ryleigh's mama what are your plans for the future are you wanting to do a show? And where are you at body composition wise? It's kinda fun workin hard and seeing results.
Body composition wise I am down 4 lbs since about 2 weeks ago. I had a ton of water weight I think. I feel pretty good about where I am right now. My arms look good, and are tighter than I think they have ever been. My legs are more defined as well. I am only doing heavy every other week too, I tend to have really muscular legs, so for the sake of "evening everything out" I am trying to not bulk them up too much. I don't think I will actually do a show. I have too many stretch marks I think, it makes me too self conscious for public display. I have to see how my stomach looks when I am "ripped" which is my goal. Right now it looks better every day. I am curious what it will look like if I get down to 10% bf.

I am going to a strongman competition next weekend locally, I AM interested in seeing the women's portion. I would have entered, but I really have NO idea what the competition would be like.

I ran today, about 5 miles, it felt GREAT!! It was a really good run for me. I ran with two other ladies who have been running a lot, and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up...but I did, and it felt really good to run on the trails.

Food:

Today was higher carb (under 100g, but over 50)

B/L- 1/2 c eggs/sausage, 1/2 c fruit salad (gasp! but it was too hard to resist), some cashews.

D- 3 ribs (beef this time), huge salad

S- (this is the bad part) My nephews bday was today...and I didn't have the cake, but I did have some of the whipped cream frosting and vanilla ice cream. Sigh.

I made a big batch of green tea today. I have been drinking a ton of it.

Ryleigh's mama - Sounds like you are doing GREAT. I think I'm around 10 or 11% bodyfat right now. I am gonna check when i go to the gym, but my calves are huge and popping out, both portions individually, and my abs have a 6 pack. The fat on my thighs is the LAST to go, and I know it's gone down a little. I also tend to have bigger calves, and when you can see the split between muscles in them I know I'm really low. I can maintain here ok, but that last little budge to compete, no way you can hold that for long, it's unhealthy and you wouldn't cycle normally either.I have deep striations in my chest when I flex and my lats have gotten bigger giving me a better taper....they actually slightly bulge over my workout bras lol. I definately did NOT have this much back muscle before and i like it. I've been workin really hard. Not more, just harder and I can REALLY tell the difference when I do the heavy and hard, and more intense the next time kind of workouts.

Yesterday I did chest/back and some tris and calves, wed I'll do legs/shoulders/abs/calves. I couldn't do heavy walking lunges like I normally do yesterday because I was just more tired than usual and didn't want too long a workout.

foods good, I swear i eat the same day in, day out.

first 2 meals, eggs, flax, fruit, etc pancake. Then a huge salad, then whatever we have for dinner sans any grains which is usually a tiny part of the meal anyways.

I'm making gyros tonight, which the kids have decided must be on the menu every single week and they want lunch leftovers every single day. I'm ok with that LOL. I just have to keep myself from eating the feta beacuse last time I convinced myself it was ok to just have one bite and i was runnin to the bathroom miserable the rest of the night

My MIL is coming soon and I'm havin a freak out.

oh and ryleigh'smama have you taken good photos of yourself? Have someone do it now since you are really happy with the way things are going. And then do it every week or couple weeks or something. Wear heels and a bikini. I neeed someone to do it for me but I haven't had the extra time at the gym lately. Maybe wednesday

good golly... you girlies are the greatest inspiration both with cooking and exercise. crunchy... will you pretty please share your crock pot thai curry recipe. i am finally starting to experiment more with cooking and i think you girls are right... it helps to keep me focused. i went to whole foods last week and sprung for a grass fed chuck roast and made it in the crockpot and it was yummy... just with veggies as a stew. my littles gobbled it up... both that night and the leftovers. i also got hubby to watch food inc. and now i am pretty convinced i can get him to buy a quarter of a grass fed cow. wahoo! one of my goals is to get on the fall csa list for a local farm. i think both of these things will encourage me to cook in new ways.

yesterday
coffee with cream, spinach and bacon eggs
leftover steak and spinach
grilled fish and a few slices of cheese
some whipped heavy cream bite of dark chocolate almond thing

Lisa- I had the BEST leg/glute/shoulder workout yesterday!! I am good sore today, which is harder and harder to achieve. This was my workout:

Walking lunges with 65 lb bar, 50 in a set
Shoulder presses pyramid up with weight, heavy this week
Jump squats, 20 in a set
standing calf raises

Repeat x 3

Squats, starting with 135 x 20 reps and go up in weight (2 sets at 135, then 2 sets at 145, etc for total of 6 sets)
alternate with dumbbell deadlifts, start at 50 lb dumbbells and pyramid down x 6 sets
Lat shoulder raises 6 sets, pyramid up

So that superset I repeat x 6

Go to cables and do standing rows pyramid up
Grab bar and did lunges with the 45 lb bar with back leg on weight bench (DIE!! x 10 on each leg)
Anterior shoulder raises with cable, pyramid up

Repeat x3

Calf presses on sitting leg press x 4 sets pyramid up

One last set of lat shoulder raises x 12 hold for 10 seconds at end.

Whew!

Eating wise...it was not my lowest carb day. I was HUNGRY yesterday. My appetite has calmed down today.

Today bf was omlet with spinach and cheese.
Lunch will be chicken legs and salad.
Dinner is at MIL's and I think they will have burrito's and I will have taco salad.

Have a great day!

wnt2bgrn- I used the thai curry recipe from the 365 crockpot and then tweaked it up. How low carb it is depends on the vegetables you use- I added tomatoes as well and I didn't have curry paste so I did lots of curry powder and various other spices as well.

hanging on here ladies. yesterday was certainly higher carb than others- I am working on a peppermint candy recipe and I have filling suppr yummy- I kept eating it!! made myself sick w/ too much sugar.
hey I'd like to join you guys. I just started doing this low-carb thing about 2 and half weeks ago. I was kind of eating pseudo-TF before that, but definitely too many carbs and too much sugar. The first week was hard. Now that I'm in the 3 rd week I feel really good, and my cravings aren't too bad. Except when I go to the grocery store and there are so many things calling to me that I can't have. There's a brand new Whole Foods that just opened up by us and the bakery is right in the front as you walk in. It's got these big open windows that look in to where they are baking the fresh bread. That sucks and I can't avoid it. But in general I do feel good. I used to take dd out for icecream 1 or 2 times a week and I haven't been at all since I started this and that's good. The first week I was still eating a lot of fruit, nuts, and dairy, so although I was definitely eating lower carb I think I was still hitting 100+ grams of carbs a day. So I think now I'm going to try for ~50 grams net carbs. Does that seem like a good amount that one could lose weight eating? I also am nursing my 8 month old and while he does eat a bit of solids, I am his primary source of nutrition. I don't know if nursing requires more carbs or not.
OMG LOL Ryleigh'smama your killin it!!! My workout was very similar wed. SEriously I am SO impressed you are doin a 65 pound bar with walking luinges?! Oh my, I have competition now

I did more walking lunges than ever before. I use the 70 pound and did 3 sets, then the rest of my workout and did 2 more. I actually had to do 30 minutes on the eliptical just to cook down and stretch out. I am sore in every way today too.

Doesn't it feel good to just push it past the point you think you can and then some?? I seriously thrive on it

LOST 4 lbs!!!!

So my scaleless experience was hard, and rewarding. I was so freaked out and thought I was gaining weight for sure that my 4 pound loss really made me happy.

I'm going to weigh in once a week from now on.

Hope everyone is doing well.
That is awesome lil_em! So, glad that you are staying off the scale - I know it is hard!!!

Doing good here- I need to get more organized w/ bfast though as we are all getting burned out on eggs!

I am down to 122.2 the last I weighed. Still going down slowly I guess, last week it was 122.6. I can only guess it is because I am gf this time. Weight loss was always so hard before, of course I am also grainfree/sugarlite as well. But I ate to fullness. Anyway, I am happy w/ things except that I have not been doing god w/ working out at all- I want to start back w/ the morning routin.

Yay Lil EM!!! Great job!

Lisa~ I definitely love pushing it, and I love that I am literally the only female in the gym that goes "downstairs" or lifts more than 10 lbs for that matter. I had a really bad carb day yesterday. I am erasing it from memory and moving on. I had one of those days where all of a sudden I felt like I was in a panic to eat chocolate. I think it was hormonal. Anyway, today I have NO appetite, and I'm starting again.

Did arms/chest/back workout today. I worked hard...for an hour, but I feel like I needed more today. I might go run this afternoon if I get a chance.

We are going to a "strongman/woman" competition tomorrow, I can't wait to see what it is like. I'm considering training for it next year.
WOW lil em amazing job!! Woot for you!

ryleighs mamaa - YES. I am one of very few woman who work out HARD. As in mean faced sweatin and pushing it, NOT flirting

how cool you're going to a show. You will FOR SURE, want to do it if you watch one. I'm doing a couple next year, I'll workout details when it gets closer. I do not want to compete in October, I just don't have the time and am planning several mini trips/vacations with the fam.

My legs are literally so sore still that I am just doing arms tonight, and cardio, hard up hills and all the way up hill/and resisitance on the eliptical.

My diet is going really good, whatever small hardship i had this month I think i'm finally cycling normally which is so exciting to me that I"ll take a little food cravings to go wtih it.

I really think all of you woman here are just fabulous. I'm glad everyone seems to be in a good place with things

can I say ugh? My weight is fine, my waist is now down to 27in and my hips 36.5. However, I don't feel near as good as I did. I need to get back lower carb. I did better this last week but had some splurges here and there. I am tired of being restricted though- being gluten/dairy/soy/grainfree is enough! Anyway, I am just whining. I know it is better to feel better and have more energy. Anyway- sugar is the devil- have I mentioned that? I am still working how to do that and not lose weight though as I am still losing even now. Perhaps, I am working to a new set point. As I said before I weighed a bit less than this before pregnancy(although I think I like this size better). Anyway, if I am eating good foods to fullness and feel good I guess my body will find it's right weight.

Today is a bday party for Lily! At the park- please let the rain go away!!! I am bringing all kinds of outdoor play stuff a cool new frisbee- balls - bubbles-bouncing balls- whatever I can think of- food is simple chicken legs and a bunch of fruit- that is what they requested and an allergy free Namaste choc cake as I am too lazy today to make somthing from scratch. Korean ribs for supper and ???.

Ack crunchy I know sugar sucks!! I'm telling you, it iS evil. I don't crave sugar really ever, I've been off it for SO long, so i DO think the urge can rid totally, but it takes a while.

So yesterday was my birthday (the big damned three zero) and we just had supper at my mom and dad's. BBQ chicken, big stuffed potatoes, lotsa salad. I ate some potato, almost a whole head of raw cauliflower LOL, and some chicken without sauce. Felt great....then I was just sittin at the bar chatting with DH and I noticed I was dipping the rest of the cauliflower in the BBQ sauce. ACK!!! I didn't make it, it' s loaded with sugar. I'm fine with that I don't count calories at this point on paper, but the sugar freaked me out. I woke up with a SPLITTING headache today. I am *so* hypersensitive to sugar because i NEVER eat it. I'm acutally kinda phobic about it . But hey, if that's the biggest thing wrong with me....

So I guess i'm not freakin out about the 30 thing. DH actually bought me something very thoughtful, an emerald/diamond pendant and said he noticed he's never got me my birthstone!! Wow, not a last minute costco trip this year Kids got me a new le crueset tepot in lemon grass SO BEAUTIFUL, wouldn't have picked the color myself and I'm glad they did because I'm trying to put more soft green/yelllows/blues in the kitchen. Then they got me a heavy duty tool box with a "Metal lock" said DS so it doesn't break and DD picked me out a few pretty yellow flowered tools . Last a big huge white serving platter an din unison said "these are for wing night mama!!" I CRIED it was precious. They love (mostly teryiaki) chicken wings on our dinner white board they pick a day for wings and they literally eat for like a half hour licking bones. Ok back on topic....

We are going out to the Cheesecake factory for day two of my bday LOL, DH is outa town next week so I'm glad because i have to pack and I won't have any dishes/cooking to do.

This week I'm making a big pot of turkey chili for me, and just whatever the kids want. This will probably be fruit salad and green salad every night, and some kinda chicken and one day turkey meatballs.

I am so blessed, I love my friends and family and I've grown quite fond of all you super ladies

Ryleigh'smama did you guys enjoy watching the competition?

hope everyone has a great week!
I did enjoy watching the competition! It was all strength...no bikini's. It was good. Dh says I could have won...so I'll probably do it next year. I think he will too. He was all excited cause he pressed 100 lb dumbbells for the first time since he started working out again...anyway, yeah, crazy, as I struggle to get 40's up once.

Carbs...hmmm, they were on the higher side this weekend. Between 75 and 100 g both days. Sat started well, then we went to a BBQ...and even that went well...until a new friend was SO excited about this hard apple cider that she was drinking, and she wanted me to try one...and I felt like I should (I hadn't been drinking at all prior to that, I usually don't or I drink red wine) anyway, it was 200 calories, and I know that it was a ton of carbs. I pawned 1/2 of it off on dh (who hates sweet drinks, but loves me and knew I didn't want all that sugar). Today, started off good, sausage and eggs, but we went out of town to major food shop for the day, and I ate a frozen yogurt.

I will be back to vlc tomorrow.
