I think I might have some insight on this for you - I have many of the same symptoms as you do. I found a pretty amazing doc here in Alberta that finally (after years of these symptoms) suggested that I do a hormone test by saliva and I think it might be working.
Ever heard of adrenal fatigue? I hadn't either, but think it might be something worth exploring in your situation. It's a total medical grey area represented by a massive bell curve that most people fall into, unless you have Addison's Disease or Cushing's Disease (which I am sure you don't..). It's like when they test your Thyroid (something I am VERY familiar with - I have hypothyroidism) and tell you that you are normal - but you might be like one point away from needing medication - is that really normal? Most docs won't look for these symptoms/diagnoses.
Anyway, my doc and naturopath recommended a book called "Adrenal Fatigue: the 21st Century Stress Syndrome" by James Wilson. It has a self test in it that might be useful. He thinks that anything can be a total stressor. Have you had some pretty seriously stressing situations lately?
FWIW, you could try a simple test with a flashlight: Stand in a dark room facing a mirror for a few seconds to allow the pupils to dilate. Then turn on a bright pen light or something in the very outer corner of your eye - now watch your pupil. Most people with normally functioning adrenals will see their pupil pinpoint and stay closed in response to the bright light in the outer corner of their eye. If you have adrenal malfunction, yours might stay small or pinpoint for a couple of seconds and then open and close, as though it doesn't know what the h*** to do! It's noticeable anyway.
Another FWIW: I am super low in the progesterone department (like a 29), had a MC in Aug 09 and am taking prometrium. I was also prescribed Metagenics Adreset. I also have to take 90 mg of dessicated thyroid daily.
Feel free to PM me if you want to know more or if you have any questions. I would be happy to help. At any rate,
from me to you. I hope you can get it sorted out soon.
Lisa
