Buying Raw Milk

Hello, all,

Just curious, though it seems like this is a self-answering question:

If, by law, raw milk has to be sold as "for pets", does that mean you have to use it for that purpose?

Thanks!

I don't think there are any laws telling us what we can and cannot eat, right? Just what we can and cannot grow or purchase.

Are herdshares legal in your state? Have you checked www.realmilk.com to find milk locally?

Here in TX raw milk can be purchased on the farm only. What are the laws in your state?

I would personally say screw the law and buy it and just say I gave it to my pets.

Just because they're required to label it that way doesn't mean you're legally constrained to do so. I don't know of anybody who buys raw milk just to feed it to their pets, so it's kind of a joke.

kinda reminds me of the case of red wine we shipped home from Italy, labeled "for research purposes only" yep. I researched the heck out of that wine!

I agree with mtn.mama, there are no laws stating that you cannot consume "pet food".

I bought raw milk marked for pet consumption only in a few States...

The dogs did get some of it when I didn't feel like finishing the bowl of cereal...

raw milk is a HOT topic in georgia, i tell you.
check out this from our csa
and this article about the events...
that's what can happen. you can drink raw milk for "pets" as that's how people get around legislation forbidding sale/consumption, etc.
you will want to ask the farmer about shelf life/ dates, etc. to be safe.

There is no law preventing you from consuming pet food. You can buy it for whatever reason you want and you don't have to pretend it's for Fifi.

The burden is on the farmer to label it as such. The purpose of which is to make sure he couldn't possibly compete on the market with his superior product if it's basically labelled a biohazard.

I live in Pennsylvania, where I can buy raw milk with little difficulty, and am so thankful for it.

Thanks for this link! I just contacted a herd-share from south-western Canada that looks amazing because of your recommendation!

Hopefully I'll be drinking raw soon!
