Vermiculture--Enough for Us?

So I really really want to compost our food waste. There are five of us, and we create about a half gallon to a gallon of scraps a day. (These are peelings, pits, egg shells, coffee grinds, etc. Plus the kids crusts, uneaten food but that's not so much as all of the other stuff.) Looking at the vermiculture sites I've found, it looks like we make too much for one happy little rubbermaid tote of worms--even the big one. Because of the way our house is situated, a regular compost is really iffy given our strict HOA, but we could do a tote'o'worms in the garage fairly easily. Are there worms even hungrier than the red worm? What else should I be thinking of?

I don't have your answers, but subbing to hear what others have to say. We raise domestic meat rabbits and I want to start vermicomposting under the rabbit hutches to feed our chickens.

Could you do more than one tote of worms? They reproduce fairly quickly as I understand so you should be able to divide them after a while (don't know the particulars) to fill more than one tote.

Yes, that's way too much for even a few totes of wormies.

At the end of the summer last year, my worm bin got these nasty, big white maggotty bugs. I researched and discovered they were soldier fly larvae and wouldn't bother the worms but would help them eat the scraps. Apparently, they're quite big eaters, and fast eaters.

If you used these along with worms, it may help, but still, you would need multiple totes/condos.

Here is a thread I was reading just the other day. I remembered it while drinking my coffee, lol. It has some pretty helpful advice.

Check with your Department of Public Works. I just bought a nice compost bin from ours for about $30; they received a grant to help furnish these.
