possible allergens in fish oil for kids?

my DS gets this really strange purple rash around his mouth sometimes.

the first time it happened was when he ate onion rings the night before. since then it's happened again with onion rings (along with itchiness all over his back), and also without any strange food in his diet.

he took some fish oil vitamins (nordic naturals pro omega junior) that he's had before and the next day... small purple rash under his mouth.

i'm stumped. might it be a fish allergy of some sort (fish fried in the same oil as onion rings)? he eats tilapia without any affects. i don't know what to think.

He could be allergic to one type of fish but not another. Is he okay with soy?

i don't know that he has ever eaten anything with soy in it. he might have eaten a few edamame beans before. i was thinking maybe soybean oil, but there isn't any in NN fish oil.

I think most fish oil has vitamin E in it, which is often derived from soy.

I just looked at the ingredients. Maybe the gelatin?

Nordic Naturals always had soy in it. The last time I looked at it was over a year ago... it's possible that they changed their formula.

not the bottle i have... maybe the formula for adults, but not this one. could be a cross reaction thing though.

but wait, does lo mein have say sauce in it? cause he's certainly eaten plenty of that!

Is is shellfish? Maybe fried shrimp with the onion rings. My DD is allergic to shellfish and I have never found a fish based oil to use that was safe.
