Sid the science kid and vaccines

I work at a library. A young patron asked if i could help her get on sid the Science Kid. I googled and...voila! PBS kids.

This was the first page I saw when I open up Sid
http://pbskids.org/sid/germs.html

You can even push the needle and give the kid a flu shot!

I just wish there wasn't so much propoganda in kids stuff I get and am Ok that some people choose to vax. I am not Ok with PBS picking sides and targetting very young children.

Yeah, I agree. I generally love sid, but their episode on vaccines really rubbed me the wrong way... I now generally read the 'info' box before we watch sids so that I can change the channel/turn off the tv if its that particular episode...

I heard DD playing that game one day and just cringed. I didn't say anything but when/if she plays it again, we'll talk about it. She knows we don't do shots, that we believe they don't help us and can hurt us. I think that's the extent she needs to know for being 6yo. I hate that I have to bring it up because of Sid, though.

There's something else that helps our bodies fight the flu. Getting the flu now and then! Letting our immune systems get to work every now and then! Like a car gets us from point A to B half a mile away quicker, walking it makes us stronger.

sigh.....

We don't really watch Sid but I thought I could trust PBS to do shows that are quality educational programs....not propaganda.
