Went to a Chicken Pox Party today - now what???

Hi there,

I'm doing research on my own but I looove my MDC community for all of your wonderful advice, knowledge, and support.

What do I need to know about chicken pox - treating it and dealing with the school? My dd is 5 yo and ds is 3 yo.

If I took them today to be exposed - when will it show up?
Should they still go to school on Monday? I think they're ok to go to school until a pox SHOWS (or fever of course)....
Do I take them into the doctor (we have an 'ok' pediatrician we go to for... these kinds of things) - for proof they have pox (when they come that is) to then prove to the school?

What are the best remedies for comfort? I hear its pretty uncomfortable all around.

Many thanks as always!

They're actually contagious 24 hrs before fever or spots appear & the incubation period is generally 14 days but varies from 7-21. More info at the Dr. Sears website.

Go on with life as normal. If they get symptoms you treat them. 3-21 days with 7-14 being average. We went to one 8 days ago sharing lollipops no spots here yet.

Moving to H&H since this is about the illness rather than the vaccine.

Thank you soooooo much!!!! I don't know why but I always forget about Dr. Sears, even though I suggest his site to everyone! =)
This happened to me when we got lice. I suffered for 3 weeks!!!! Using junk chemicals out of desperation. Then dh suggested Dr. Sears site - it was so clear, helpful - he saved my life!=)

Thanks for the reminder!!!
