Hello!
I am currently nursing my 20-month-old DD, however, I have been fortunate to have the ability to be with her, and have not yet purchased a pump. Now I need one, but not for the reason I would have liked.
My 23 y/o sister has just been diagnosed with Hodgkin's, and is undergoing chemotherapy. In addition, she is a type 1 (juvenile) diabetic (not caused by obesity/poor health), which further complicates her case. The nausea caused by the chemotherapy is hurting her insulin/glucose levels, and creating further hospital trips. To add to all this, she is graduating this month from nursing school, because she loves people and taking care of them - but she is now the one who needs care!
After reading about some successes with human milk/chemo patients, my sister and I would like to give it a try.
Our problems are, 1) we live states away from each other (best mailing/transport methods), 2) I need to purchase a pump (which kind is best - I am over-endowed, and not sure if this will make pumping difficult with some machines), 3) I'm not sure how to properly store the pumped milk (what temp. to freeze, plastic (and its potential leaking toxins) vs. glass (and its potential for breakage) . . .
Money is not an issue, as my parents are willing to cover the costs -- and I will be pumping for some time (so quality of the supplies is really important) - and yes, I will be donating excess.
Any help is SO appreciated!!!
Thank you!! :-)
