Vancouver Island- the land of milk and honey?

Hey mamas-
We're likely moving to the island- Victoria area. Just wanted to get a feel for the degree of "crunchiness" I can expect. How do I find like minded mamas- online forums? playgroup clubs?
I am also a childbirth educator/doula/breastfeeding advocate.

I imagine island life to be a place where my lifestyle is a fairly common. Would this be accurate?

Also, could any of you recommend an awesome preschool for my ds? Are there any homeschool groups?

Lucky you! We're planning a move there too, but don't know when firmly.

I think you would find Vancouver Island divine...many crunchy areas, especially the farther away from Victoria you go...any direction. That said, Victoria is great, but away from the urban areas lends itself to other island experiences...farms, quieter beaches, amazing forests!

You could hook up with La Leche League over there for sure, and if you are home learners or plan to , there are very established and thriving home learning networks there...one of our key reasons to want to move there!! Along with the gorgeous beaches, the forests, the farm vibe, the artists and artisans, the ability to eat local and simplify, easy access to the many varied Gulf Islands and all that they have to offer, friends and family already there, others I'd love to meet IRL (that I've met online), and, and, and... You get the idea!

Hopefully some Islanders will add to this!

I am in the Cowichan Valley. I know there is a very active homeschool group in the greater Victoria area. I believe they have a Yahoo Group but if not PM me and I can put you in touch with someone there. There are a few LLL groups around, a brand new one in Malahat (just north of Victoria) - the leader of that one, Lisa Wilson, homeschools and she does most of her stuff with the Victoria group so she could put you in touch with them.

Autumn Mama pretty much said it all. We just moved here last month and are totally in love with Island life.
