Fussy before poop?

I can't remember if this is normal or not because DD1 is 4-1/2. Evie fusses before pooping, for up to a couple of minutes before. She doesn't fuss actually during elimination, so I don't think it's soreness around her bottom or anything.

She's 2 days shy of four weeks and has been doing this since the beginning.

Disconcerting, but normal.

I vote normal, they're still just learning all these sensations in their bowels.

I also say it helps her get the gas and poop out, kind of like a birthing mom grunting during pushing. :P

ddc sorry You might consider seeing if she's more comfortable pooping with her diaper off--either being cradled over a potty or over her diaper. Some (but by no means all!) babies pretty clearly prefer this. You can check out the elimination communication forum if you're interested...it doesn't have to be "all or nothing"

I'd stick her over the potty! Avery has been fussing before needing to go pee... I think it's just kind of a "hey, I have a weird sensation happening to me! What the heck is that??" I put him on the potty and he goes! Hey, one less diaper used is all good, to me

We actually do EC and DD fusses no matter where she's trying to poop. She just doesn't like the way it feels. In fact, sometimes she gets straight up ANGRY if we hold her over the potty when she needs to poop. She prefers to lie on her back while we hold her feet up. Doesn't save us a diaper, but whatever works.

That's funny
Ruben is a pooping fusser too with the only exception being when he is lying down with his feet up. Then he just looks around and poops.

It's weird, huh? People, especially EC people, always say that holding them upright helps, due to gravity and all that, but I guess some babies don't agree. lol

That's my little guy's preferred position too LOL. I just slide a few prefolds under him until he's done (he only poops like 1x a day, but when he goes, he goes, and goes, and goes. My DD was like that too...weird, huh?).

Mine cries before he is going for a pee. It seems he feels the discomfort of a bladder that wants to be released. (Don't we as adults become irritated when we need to go to the bathroom and can't go there right away but need to finish a meeting? ) We benefit from this as we do EC. Helas, not much notice when he has to go poo at this young age of 8 days.

I think it's more that the squatting position is more natural than gravity, so lying down with legs up is still squatting if I'm picturing it right.

Yeah, I agree that it's the squatting position thing, because for both my babies it's helped them a lot to hold their legs up. But I really have heard people credit gravity for why the EC hold is so great.
