Mine are probably temporary, as in I'm about 30 wks pregnant and my back only started this up at about 20 wks pregnant or so. But I'd really really REALLY like to find a carrier that won't nearly throw out my back. If I wear my 15 mo. old (21 lbs.), I have such a tender lower back for the next 3 days it's almost incapacitating. So I haven't been wearing her at all, but it's soooo frustrating to lose that tool, and that freedom. Here it is *finally* warm, and I feel like I can't get anything done. I can't plant anything, can't take care of the animals on our little farm, can't build anything, can't even go for a simple hike in the woods. I know I'm being a complainer and I shouldn't be so focused on it, it's just making me weepy and depressed and jealous of my husband who can go out anytime he wants to and work while I am stuck in the house or just sitting somewhere. (And he will wear her sometimes, but a lot of what he's doing right now isn't so compatible with babywearing.)
I have always had two big tools in the toolbox to calm her, to basically continue to live life a little bit for myself too, and they were: nursing and babywearing. She's still nursing, thank goodness, but I can't wear her without this awful back pain and it is KILLING me. What do non-babywearing mamas do? Are there other options? I hate this stuck, trapped feeling. She's a brand-new walker, so putting her down is good for maybe 10 minutes.
I have a high, backpack-style hiking carrier, an Ergo, a mei-tei that I use in the back carry with her, and a ring sling. They all give me terrible back pain the few days afterwards. Any suggestions, carriers or otherwise?
