People holding baby w/ allergies

My 3 month old has really sensitive skin. Before she was born, my mother in law washed all of her clothes in Dreft, and man oh man did she get a rash! She does fine with our dye and fragrance free detergent. We have still been noticing that she gets a rash on her face, neck, and chest. We haven't really been able to pinpoint it until now. We've discovered that she has a contact allergy or sensitivity to polyester.

Her car seat cover irritates her- it is polyester. She gets the bumps under her hair and on the back of her neck- it's pretty much a contact thing. Same as when she lays on one of our bedspreads. It *also* happens if someone holds her- I thought that it was possibly perfume, cologne, etc., but it happens with people who don't use those things. It might be the detergent or fabric softener they use. It might be because she's in contact with polyester or other synthetics.

So... what do I do? I mean, it's not a horrible horrible rash, just little bumps... but they look like they could be itchy and I don't want to give a 3mo old baby an itch she can't scratch, kwim? I don't want to tell people that they can't hold her... yk? Some thoughts, please?

I get that rash from all kinds of detergents - and sometimes it can be quite itchy. Can you outfit her in a little hoody or something, so that her skin isn't coming into contact with their clothes, or her carseat?

For now I can, since the weather is still a bit chilly. When summer hits and we get the 90 degree chicago weather.. I'm not sure what I'll do.

I just tell my visitors that the baby has sensitive skin, and offer them a blanket or diaper that has been washed in his detergent.

That's what I would do.

Good idea about the blanket!
