Light BFP line question

Hi ladies,

We weren't planning to try for #3 until next month and then I missed my period. I have no idea when I ovulated, as I wasn't tracking. If I did on the normal time, I would have ovulated day 14 or 15 and I'm now 16-17 dpo.

I took a walmart preg test about 30 minutes ago and it was positive, but light. I have no problem seeing the line, but it's much lighter than what I would expect at this point. The miscarriage I had prior to my dd had a VERY faint line and got lighter. This one is still much darker than that.

That's about what mine looked like at that point (on an internet strip test). My previous pregnancy was an early mc and the light lines worried me so I took a test every morning for a week just to see them get darker. I'm 12w2d now and everything is going fine so far.

Are you using FMU (First Morning Urine) to do your test? Or urine from a different time of day? You will have the highest concetrations of HCG in your urine when it has had a chance to be in the bladder overnight and "sit" so to speak without being diluted by drinking.

I have also heard that the blue dye tests are not as accurate. Id try using another one of the blue dye "cheapies" with your first morning urine just to see if you can get a darker line. If things look the same, try a pink.

Yeah, every blue dye test I'd ever taken had two lines

I agree - use a pink test.

That said, I think for most of us it takes wayyyy longer than we think it will for those lines to get dark even with good quality tests. With both my pregnancies, I got very faint positives on cd 10 and the lines weren't truly dark (meaning almost as dark as the control) till cd 20 or so and I spent cds 12-18 comparing lines on the four tests a day that I did and worrying my head off for nothing.

The only pregnancy I got an immediate super dark line the first time I tested with was the pregnancy I miscarried.

That said... that's a blue dye test. I avoid those like the plague. I have seem many hopeful mamas in the TTC forum that have been shattered by a false positive on a blue dye test. I can't believe they still make those... Please keep us updated on the outcome!

i used the same test this pregnancy (and it was not a false + obviously, as i'm 17.5 wks now- but i have heard of that happening) that test looks identical to my 13/14dpo test.. i took another at 16/17 dpo and the test line was as dark as the control line - its not suppose to matter how dark it is or isn't .. though for me, i find a lot of comfort in watching the test get darker, with my miscarriage, i tested several days in a row and they never got darker, though they would have eventually, my levels were just rising slowly i assume (and i didn't miscarry until 11 weeks)

I didn't know about the blue dye stuff. Thanks for sharing. I'm not concerned about a false pos, as I have all the other symptoms that go with my pregnancies.

I did NOT use first morning pee, but I will do one tomorrow morning and probably the next LOL.

Do you have a Dollar Store or Dollar Tree near you? Their tests are pink dye and fairly accurate. And only a dollar!
