When can I put the baby in the Ergo WITHOUT the infant padding?

Title pretty much says it all. I love the Ergo but hate the infant padding. It makes it to hot for the both of us to even try it.

Thanks!

Both my DSs were in the Ergo from about 5 weeks without the insert. I just used a thick blanket to prop them up a bit (this may not help you if you're concerned about the heat...) and made sure to keep my hands free and close to them in case they shifted, but I never felt it was unsafe or uncomfortable.

We were able to go without the insert when our son was just shy of 4months.

around 4 months here

I am thinking it was around 3 months. At 4.5 months I wear her ALL the time in there. I think it depends on size and strength. My current babe is pretty strong for her age I think w/ my last babe it would have taken longer to feel comfortable w/ her in there.

What do I need to look for in terms of strength? My last baby was crawling at 3 months and both my older kids were sitting on their own at 3 months, so it'll probably be earlier for my kids, but I do want to know which signs to look for. For now, we're using my MeiTie, but I much prefer the Ergo.
