BEST Electric Pump??? Increasing Supply??

Which pump would you recommend?

I have a 20 m/o and am currently nursing 4/5 x/day (2/3 of those are extended sessions) -- I need to increase my milk supply in order to provide an extra 6 ounces each day for my younger sister suffering through chemotherapy . . . (she is a Type 1 diabetic, and the 'normal' chemo side-effects: nausea/immune/digestive issues, which human milk helps ease, is putting her in the hospital (glucose/insulin levels) - further endangering her life) --

Since I currently do not have a pump, I'm not sure if there is already some 'extra' left when my DD finishes, or if she is running the tap dry :-) --- also, because of DD's age, I am wondering if I am really going to have to work to cause a milk production increase? I thought I read 'somewhere' that after feeding are decreased, it is hard to bring the milk production back up.

Any suggestions on the BEST pump (not considering price) --and methods to increase supply -- would be very appreciated!

(And yes, I know this is my 2nd post on this topic :-) - but I did not receive pump recommendations on my other post :-) --

Thanks so much ladies!

For your situation, I would probably rent a hospital grade pump. Those are the best for increasing supply. Also, then you wouldn't have to purchase a pump as this sounds like a temporary situation?

If you wanted to buy one, I think the Ameda Purely Yours or the Medela Pump in Style are both very good double electric pumps. I have the Ameda as I work full time and pump there for daycare bottles, it's a good quality pump.

I've heard (online) that the symphony is the best pump out there. It's a hospital grade rental.

As for the other stuff, I have heard that it can be difficult to increase supply after 3 months, 6 months, or a year. And I have also heard that adoptive moms can achieve an significant supply, even without having given birth ever before.

If it were my sister, I'd definitely give it a shot.

I'd also look into increasing supply at www.kellymom.com (no login required) and also llli.org (create a user name to see the increasing supply forums.)

I'd say rent a hospital grade pump too. Good luck!

It all depends how you respond to the pump - you may get more milk by pumping for a short time more frequently, or even pumping one side while your kiddo nurses from the other (if you can swing that!)
