Need some reassurance...UPDATE Post 11 & 15 & 23 Breast Debris?

So my youngest weaned herself in February. Prior to that for several months she would only nurse at night on my right side.

Having said that, I am having pain in my left breast. It seems to be behind the areola. Now I am large breasted. I sleep on my left side. I was thinking maybe a clogged duct from side sleeping? Its been several months since she has nursed on that side. So I am confused as to why I am having pain.

Suggestions.

Did your baby adamantly refuse your left breast? There are MANY reasons babies refuse one breast or the other, and some of them simply have a preference, but a TINY percentage of breast cancer has been detected extremely early because of babies refusing a breast. This is called Goldsmith's sign. I just learned about it in my lactation seminar. In some cases, babies can detect this 5 years prior to modern technology, so definitely get it checked out, but PLEASE don't panic. You have an excellent chance that it is just a fluke, plus most cancers do not cause pain. I just wanted to put this out there so you can get it checked early. I am so sorry if i am scaring you, it is definitely not my intent, but I couldn't not post. Good luck!

Sounds like a cyst. I actually have that in my left breast as well. I've had a mammo and u/s and both said it's just a cyst.

Can you feel any type of lump?

I'm sure it's absolutely nothing but, you need to get it checked. Any breast changes warrant a trip to the Dr.

I would say if your having pain it is probably harmless or a milk cyst. If it continues I would still have it checked out. I would imagine that you still have some minor discharge since you stopped feeding in Feb. You could also do the warm shower and massage. Try not to worry..our bodies go through so many changes.

Well, I would first say go and get it checked out, just to ease your mind. Even if the pain goes away, you can still be left wondering and worrying.

That being said, I went to the doc recently because I was having some pain in my left breast right around my period. It was achy and felt bruised. Got a checkup, and doc said it was hormonal and related to a few things. I am supposed to cut back on caffine, take more vitamin B6 (I upped it to a Super B Complex) and drink gallons of water. It went away the first month after I started doing that. I couldn't tell myself if there was a lump or not, I have very lumpy breasts anyways so it's hard to tell what's abnormal to me.

Since you recently weaned, your body is probably going through some hormonal fluctuations and it might just take time to level out, but why drive yourself crazy wondering?

I would agree that it's probably not anything to worry about if there is pain, but it's still scary, and while we can give you all the anecdata in the world, just go to the doc and get it checked out to ease your mind.

I am thinking milk cyst. I can't feel anything. But again I have very large breasts. With sleeping on my left side, I am sure its possible I smooshed this side during my sleep.

Delaney is going to be 2 next month. She has been day weaned since December (you know those toddlers keep busy schedules. ). With her sleeping in between hubby and I up to February, she only nursed the right side during the night.

Do you think some wet heat on that side might help?

I'm crossing fingers for a clogged milk duct. Eventhough I can't feel anything.

Well she couldn't feel any lumps. She wasn't really sure on what could be causing the pain. It could be clogged milk duct, but without testing she can't say for sure.

So I am scheduled for a mammogram and an ultrasound on Wednesday afternoon.

Thank you.

From everything I have read said there usually isn't any pain with breast cancer. So that's why I am thinking clogged duct or cyst.

I talked to my mom and she had pain in her breast twice in the last 3 years or so. She said they found calcium deposits and that they are very common. She said that they had to check and recheck , but that is all it was. Praying for your mamo and peace of mind.

Was that like a benign cyst?

No cyst..just a little white blob on the mammogram. She went in for pain. She prayed and worried. They had her go in for another mamo that was more advanced. They said it was just calcium. Her pain went away.
