Daiya 'cheese'...cheddar or mozzarella?

I've read posts in the past that said Daiya cheese-like products are really good. I do not usually buy fake cheese but would like to try this product. The shredded cheddar and shredded mozzarella are on sale this month in my co-op. I do not want to purchase two full cases of a product I've never tried, and no one will split the cases with me, so...if you've tried them, which is your favorite?

Sayward,
Thanks...right now I have both in my cart hoping another member will split them with me. I might end up trying both. (I'm a little hesitant...I have a case of Field Roast chorizo in my freezer that my family wont eat )

I love them both but honestly I kinda think they taste the same. I use a mix of the two on pizza but just the moz is good too. I think maybe I like to use the cheddar more often. But like I said, the dif in flavor is very subtle. Have fun with it! I even made fondue out of the cheddar and it turned out awesome!

I prefer the cheddar, or the two mixed together. The mozzarella is kind of enh on it's own. Still better than anything else on the market, but in every application except pizza, I prefer the cheddar. On pizza, a 50/50 blend.

And follow the website instructions for how much to use on a pizza. It's great stuff, but a little does go a very long way. (8 oz will top a large Papa Murphy's pizza)

Vegan Princess and Catnip,
Thanks for the info. I was leaning towards the moz but will go with the cheddar instead. (unless I decide to splurge and get both)

I've only had the moz on a pizza and it was delish!

Are grocery stores carrying this yet?

My Whole Foods has it. I don't know that all Whole Foods do though.

I'll have to check on Saturday. Thanks!

I think it was supposed to release at Whole Foods nationwide on April 1.

I like a mix (roughly 50/50) on everything from pizza to grilled cheese, so I would say splurge and get both! (And send me the leftover chorizo, I love that stuff!)

My son reacted to this. I have no idea why. It certainly was delicious!

Oh no! If anyone has some on hand, can you please list the ingredients here?

i'll have to check my local whole foods too! I hope they have it! we use veggie shreds & slices occassionally, but they aren't vegan - so i'd love to switch to daiya. thanks!

We can't have gluten, soy or dairy and I carefully read through the ingredients. I wonder if there is an issue with cross-contamination?

That's too bad, Daiya is supposed to be uber allergen friendly.

You can see the ingredients here

Whole Foods has it. Also you can find it from some online groceries out of Portland. For Whole Foods go to their prepared foods deli and get one slice of pizza just to taste it. At my whole foods it cost around $3.99 per package. I bought some to try it after one of my vegan friends said "They've finally cracked the cheese code." I try and use it more like I would salt as it probably isn't the healthiest thing in the world albeit very tasty.

OP here…
I picked up my order last week and couldn’t wait to get home to try the ‘cheese’. I also ordered my favorite chips. (Lundberg Sesame and Seaweed Brown Rice Chips – they sound yucky but taste great!)

I didn’t like the Daiya at all. I’ve been l/o for over twenty years and have been trying to cut out dairy for the past two years. I tend to slip up occasionally and eat cheese – I’ve never had fake cheese and hoped this w/b my substitute. I couldn’t get past the strange smell – not that real cheese smells great either. Last night I tried it again and my son walked into the room and said ‘What is that horrible stink?’

I have a case of both and haven’t tried the mozzarella yet. Maybe in another recipe it will be fine? I really wanted to like it. Now I can't even make myself finish the first bag.

I think I will need to give up cheese and cheese-like products.

I know this is the risk I take ordering by the case. (I donated a case of spelt noodles to the food pantry recently.) I’m determined to find a way to use the two cases of Daiya and the Field Roast chorizo…maybe together they’ll make a wonderful meal. Any recipe suggestions?
